686 Finish

I acquired a 2.5 inch 686 that the previous owner shined up a bit much for my taste can anyone recommend someone who can restore finish, yes i know about scotch brite pads ect ect thanks for reading my post

I agree that standss' advice is best. Interestingly, I don't know anyone other than the factory that does brushed stainless.

Plenty outfits offer various types of bead blast for stainless and factory-style bluing, but I've never seen one offer a factory style stainless.

Definitely call S&W.

If you are willing to spend hundreds on shipping your gun back to the Factory and wait months to get it back, TRY the Scotchbrite FIRST! It is easy, goes quickly, gives great results and unless you do something with a power tool, it is almost foolproof! If after you do it you still are unhappy - THEN send it out but I see no down side to make an attempt. More than likely you will be very happy with the Scotchbrite results anyway! It does work very well and gives a Factory like finish for a few dollars.
 
Grey Scotchbrite. I've corrected the finish on many Smiths over the years with these . I start with a brand new unused pad and do the final finish with a well used one . Sometimes I also finish with a white pad .
