My brother found at LGS a 586 no dash 6 in barrel with wood S&W Target Rosewood grips. Also there is a 686 no dash 6 inch barrel with rubber grips. He went in to buy a new 686 and later wanted to add the round but larger S&W Target wood grips. Both are priced the same. He was there until closing and called me for advice on witch one to buy. I have directed him to burchase the 586 because it is more of a classic and already comes with the wood grips. A cost of about $60 he would have to spend if he went with the 686. Which one should he buy and why?
It will be used for target and stored well.
Both are same price, Both are what I would say 85% to 90% per pictures and description from brother. Both are no box or paperwork. Brand new price lists the S/S one at a $40 premium. S&W site lists the wood grips at I believe $60. I have directed he towards the 586 because at is a beautiful S&W with great bluing. It has been reintroduced and how long will this model be offered. I have owned a Model Highway Patrolmen five screw side plate that was stolen. I have replaced it with a Model 27-2 that took a while to locate and purchase. I don't think you can beat that classic S&W look.
