Greetings all. New to this forum, but not to guns, or gun forums. I own three S&W's at the current time, and I just put a 4th on layaway. I ordered a 686 Performance Center Competitor. This will largely be a target and range gun, but may serve a bit of bed side duty.

I have google searched, searched S&W's website, searched on this forum, and searched on The High Road, and can not find an answer to this.

Does anyone know of company that makes a nice leather holster for this model gun? Maybe some of the owners of the older PC weighted bbl designs would know? I can't seem to find one anywhere. Even though it is a range gun, I always buy a good holster for all of my hand guns, the Smiths especially.

Thanks all for any information.

Honestly I've never considered holstering as I use it only for range/target use, no competition (no dis on it's capabilities). I do not recall any holsters for this model.
You might try Safariland, they have several 3-Gun rigs, but I'm unsure if they do one for revolvers.
Holsters | Competition Holsters | Competition - ELS Belt System - SAFARILAND?

Neat gun, you are going to like it.

Thanks. I have a feeling I'm going to be going to a custom leather shop around here and just have one made special. Yeah, I doubt I'd ever have a reason to strap it to my side, but you never know. The mood may strike me in the right circumstance. It's gotta be leather though. A revolver with that kind of class simply demands it. I'm going to put Nills grips on it too.

Contact any of the many holster makers frequently mentioned on the forum; for example lobo, or el paso, etc. Ask them if they'd make something.

You can always go kydex with Comp-Tac. A lot of folks like them for conceal and they're #1 for competition.

Whoops... maybe I was on the wrong page.....

...... I ordered a 686 Performance Center Competitor.

Maybe I missed something, my only experience was with the original Performance Center M686 Competitor, so if you are talking about a "new" version of this gun (below is a pic of the original), my apologies as my suggestion was regarding the type shown below.
Frankly I can't imagine carrying one for general use, field or much less concealed carry, but then again I've seen it all. If they are making a newer gun that is based on the M686 platform but has a shorter, more concealable profile my apologies. The rigs in the link I posted above were meant towards the competition style of carry and "games" that the original Competitor was geared towards.
I'd like to see pics of the gun your ordered....

Regards,

If I were to carry it, it would be open carried in the woods. So there is no need to conceal it. I do not want a kydex holster though. I reserve kydex for polymer guns only. It's just my preference. I am looking for leather for this revolver. Like I said, I'm guessing I'll be having one made custom.

Yes, S&W has come out with a new run of the old weighted bbl system. There is an N frame 629 Competitor and an L frame 686 competitor. Here is the picture the seller had on Gunbroker of the gun I put on layaway. I hope I didn't just violate any rules by posting someone else's picture. If I did, please delet it mods.

Nice gun- I didn't know they were making them again

I think you are going to have to go the custom route

Good luck

686 Competitor & Finding a Holster

I just purchased the 686 Competitor and used a 586 4" in the mid 80's as a duty firearm. I qualified quarterly at Combat Master level.

I have shot 100 rounds of .38 special plus p so far and it is everything I always wanted out of a deluxe revolver. My stock 6" 1970 Colt Python was my favorite deluxe revolver.

I called Smith & Wesson and they basically said if it's not on their website that they do not make a holster. I was sort of bewildered by this comment.

I checked Mernickle - Mernickle Custom Holsters - Shoulder Holsters

update: I got 2 otw holsters and a belt from Mernickle. The holster for the 686-Competitor did not fit that gun nor did it fit a 686-1. It fit a colt 6" mark III Officers Match of all guns? It's well made enough for what I paid... No matter as I found a Hunter Holster, tan, and broken in nicely. That holster fit the 686-C just fine. It will make a great hiking and hunting pistol in that rig. I found some grips which beat those cheap run of the mill junk which came with the gun. I loath hogues. They are like gettin a hummer with a condom on. Gun shoots like a rifle
