I just want to throw this out. Flame on. I think that my 686 PC is better than a Python because:

Hand fitted and tuned action just like the Python.

More modern revolver look.

It is a Smith!

I don't think that Colt wants to compete with Smith's PC models.

Chime on in.

I owned two (2) Pythons many years ago. Both would spit lead / have timing issues but were two of the nicest looking revolvers made at the time, they were not the nicest shooting and both were sold.

I do not miss any aspect of the Python/s except if I had them now and sold them for stupid money people seem to be spending.

My current 686-2, 27 or my 627 Performance Center S&W runs rings around my former Python's.

My first gun ever was a 6" blue Python that I bought brand new in 1978. I saved up forever for it and loved it. Since then I have owned a 4" and 6" stainless Python. Now, that being said, the first time I shot my 627 v-comp, I thought wow. This is so much better then my Pythons and 2 extra rounds too.

Again!
This horse race has been decided for a long time.
The smith by a mile!
:D

yup... ill keep both my snakes too. best shooting guns ive owned

Never owned a Python, but I freaking love my 686.

Colt Pythons were the cream of the crop the best of the best when they came out in the 1950 's but none will come close to any of my early prelock performance center Smith's. People can enjoy paying 3K for the Pythons because they want to be Rick from walking dead lmfao..

They purchased python because of Hutch on starkzy and hutch. He carried a blues 6" python. Hutch(David soul) carried a python in magnum force with dirty Harry.

The lock up on the Colts is way better than on any other revolvers. But I have seen cylinders with a looser lockup out shoot the colt accuracy wise.

My python had pinpoint accuracy at 100yds. I could ping any small rock that I could see.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

A "fluff 'n buffed" 686 vs. a revolver that comes right out of the box with all that extra attention given to it...

Stagey or stacky trigger? More maintenance or less? (We're talking HIGH round counts, here.)

In the end, I think it's an apples/oranges comparison. I own a box stock 686 no-dash and love it, but it looks and feels pedestrian compared to a Python.

Kind of a silly question on the Smith forum, don't ya think!, LOL.

I will say, I'll NEVER sell my Colts, but I will keep buying them, and it's not about TV actors either, at least for me.

Geeshhh, silly boys!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. No disrespect to the Colt owners out there, but I've always thought that the Python looks rather cartoonish in it's styling. The features of the gun seem too exaggerated. And perhaps the biggest deal breaker is the price tag that comes along with it. I'm sure that the Python is a fine weapon, and by all accounts, I have no reason to doubt this, but for me it's a Smith or nothing.

My shooting partner built a Smithon.....a Model 19 with a 6" Python Barrel and it is a shooter and a conversation piece. It does not out shoot his 686 6" with silhouette front sight.

This is exactly my thought...a revolver with a suspension bridge built in. Never warmed up to the Python, and never cared for its DA trigger pull.
