I am looking for some recommendations for a replacement front-sight for my Model 686-Plus 3-5-7. I replaced the rear-sight with a Cylinder-Slide fixed. Now, it shoots very low. Any recommendations on where to find a replacement for the stock red-ramp? I shy away from "fixing" it with a file to shorten the stock-sight. I am a babe in the wilderness on this.

What length barrel?

What is the height of the installed front sight?

How low is it hitting & at what range?

If you can get someone at S&W to work with you I'm sure they've got various heights in-stock but you're going to need to be able to answer their questions &/or tell them what you what.

My 5" bbl. 686+ has a .260" tall front sight.

Midway has a .241" tall black ramp front sight (#720229) in-stock (only one left).

The only red ramp they have that I'm aware of it taller (.278") that I use & file to slightly shorter heights.

The 686-Plus has a 3-inch barrel. I believe it has the .278" red-ramp front. At seven-yards, it is hitting 2" low for me and two other shooters. I did e-mail Cylinder & Slide for their recommendations.

What ammunition are you using and have you checked point of impact at any other distances and what type of sight picture are you using?

thanks,

Stu

Is it a Classic or pin on sight? Look on the front of the gun for a 1/8" hole just below the front sight. Classic clip on has the hole, pin on does not have the hole. They both have a pin in the side.
