I have one of these -- the S&W 686 Pro Series, on the nasty California 10 day wait. Mine is the "non-plus" 6 shooter version. Anyone have one of these? Query: does this gun have the DX spring-loaded removable sight? Anything else to know about this gun?

last time I bought a gun in California it was 1967. There was no background check but there was a 3 day wait. Things seem to be going down hill in California

My dear friend, that is the understatement of the year.
Yes, it's a 10 day wait now. And only one handgun every 30 days.

I've got the 5" 686+ Pro. Just looking at the pic I'm guessing yours is a 4". I'm really happy with mine. It is reliable and accurate. Beyond that I don't know what else to say about it. I never really looked into changing the front sight because when I bought the pistol nobody had replacement sights for it.

I purchased one perhaps 5 years ago (?). It was my finest revolver until I bought the 627 Pro Series with 4" bbl. Only one difficulty: the strain screw would back out under firing, resulting in light primer strikes/misfires. I tightened it but it again backed out. My gunsmith used the proper color Loc-tite and I've had no additional problem. Be prepared if you find this, though. When I reported this to the Forum, seeking direction, one member said that this screw loosening could not happen.

That would be purple.

Adios,

I have one and be prepared to love it. I enjoy mine to the point it is my favorite revolver. I had a action job performed on it and it now has a 9 lb. 13 oz. DA trigger and is super smooth.Everyone that shoots it just raves about it. Have fun and be safe!!!!

Great to hear! 7 days to go …

I have had one for close to 10 years I think and I love it. Shot it yesterday a little. I replaced the Red Ramp with a gold bead. Much more visible to me.

I used to wait ten minutes, I sure do miss those days, our governor decided he wasn't enough like California and changed it.

Here in Virginia I heard a member of THAT party bragging that they had been able to do in 2 months what had taken California twenty years to do. Our state elections are off-year, so we're stuck with these guys until Fall of '21. In the meanwhile, it looks like revolvers will still be available to us... but only one a month. I will need to consider each purchase more seriously, so threads like this are all the more valuable. For instance, if you could only have the 686 Pro or the 627 Pro right now, which would you get first and why?

Great question Froggie ... I hope someone here can answer it. As it happens, I have the 627PC but, as I say in this thread, I cannot compare them because I am still enduring the 10 day wait for the 686 Pro. Which may be longer if the LGS closes due to the Wuhan Virus -- pickup day was next Monday.

The pic is a 686ssr.It has chamfered charge holes and recessed crown.Comes with wood grips and more useful rubber grips.Very well balanced gun.
