Just purchased ssr. What work would be productive. I thought remove single action, dao, remove lock. Smooth action. Any input would be appreciated

Why would you want to convert it to DAO? How's the trigger?

Never would use single and its removal may help smooth the action. Actually I am disappointed in the action. I have fired new 686 that seemed better. There is almost no return in the trigger. I wonder if a stop would help.

The reason I ask is my ssr is silky smooth,great let off, and no problem with trigger return, both single and double action, bought new 1 year ago.
I really can't see changing over to doa doing much to improve what your complaints are about.
you can have a complete action job on the current components done by a competent gunsmith $$$ that will rival any gun on the market with out removing the sa/da ability.

The action job is what I was thinking about. The cost is worth it. Did you feel the ssr was all that when you bought it, or did it grow on you?

I'm not a fan of the SSR look, but I know the less weight has proven shave time off of competition scores. I do think the interchangeable front sight is worth the added cost alone.
As for the bobbing the hammer, the good revolversmiths prefer to go DAO as it allows for further lightening of the trigger pull while improving the primer strike reliability. If one does not reload with fully seated Federal primers I'm not sure it's worth it to go DAO.

My SSR was love at first sight, and feel.
It was sweet, just as it should have been right out of the box.
I also have a std 4" 686 , it has a decent action, but, the SSR is way,way better.
I also have other Smith revolvers a couple with good action jobs, they are just about as good as my SSR which is as purchased.
I shoot better with the SSR then with any other revolver I own.

A bobbed hammer is lighter, will move faster, and therefore impart more energy when striking the firing pin. This allows for a lighter trigger pull in comparison with the same primer strike.
