Which of these models would you prefer shooting PPC with and why? I am currently using a borrowed 686 and am eventually going to buy my own. Was wondering the main pros and cons of both guns. Thank you

Hey Fellow Okie. I have used both for PPC. I really like my SSR, but some problems with it at Nationals a few years ago because it had a factory trigger stop on it. Now the state match in Norman and some other matches I shot in Arkansas and Texas didn't care, but at nationals and in Ratone (sp) one time they gave me grief and wouldn't let me shoot it. I not just use my old 686. It seems to have a better trigger pull with firing pin mounted on the hammer anyways. Other than the trigger stop problem it was a great gun and grouped really well for me.

How light can you get the DA trigger pull on a 686? I just got chosen by my department to go to Firearms Instructor school and we have to shoot PPC with a revolver. I am very un-familiar with the revolvers and I need all the edge I can get!! Thanks

I just recently went through firearms instructor school in June. I went through with my old 686-1. You can have a gunsmith lighten it and smooth it out quite a bit. The tricks I will pass along are buy you some good wadcutter ammo like Precision Delt or Black Hills. Get the Safariland Comp 3 speedloaders. If you are going to have a trigger job done you may have them mount a patridge front sight. I had this done and when I shot the 50 yard line I was able to lower my rear sight 2 1/2 turns and I could do a neck hold at the 50 yard line. In case you don't know what that is, it is where you can aim at the neck of the target instead of trying to hold center mass. If you do it right at the 50 yard line you can make the "head" of the B-27 taget look like a perfect circle on top of your front sight. Good luck with it!

Thanks for the heads up. I am excited as hell to start this adventure. I've been dry firing the hell outta my 686-6. The department got our rounds from Precision Delta out of Louisiana. Who did the work on your gun? What other equipment suggestions can you make?

I had a lot of good tips given to me by other forum memebers when I was asking for guidence a few months back. Check out the the topic Match 5 PPC tips under the Competition Shooting Forum

I had a guy in Norman who is a retired Norman officer do it. He has a web sight 150x custom pistols. He use to shoot alot of PPC and know what needs to be done. If you were going to use a SSR for the school that would be fine since they don't care about trigger stops. I used a safariland holster I think it was called cup challenge or something. It is a front break open design and I had some old speedlader holders I cut the flaps off so my speedloaders just set in them.
