The 686SSR is on my "short" list of guns to add to my collection.
The S&W website is a little short on info, so is the frame a round butt, or square ?

Just bought one. Can't wait to shoot it. will probably have to start with .38's since my club's indoor range can't handle .357's and i don't want to freeze my ass off.

Mine has the smoothist trigger of any revolver I have ever felt. This Pro Series of guns could be a good one if the SSR is any indicator.
This gun is definitely a keeper.

I just got one about three weeks ago and haven't got to shoot it much yet but thank I am really going to like it. It has the smoothest action of any of my revolvers.

I, also have recently bought a 686-SSR and it is among the most accurate of any S&W revolvers in my collection. The lock up is bank vault tight, and the double-action trigger is smooth as glass.
Single-action is as light as any I've felt. Fit & finish are first rate. I've owned several 686 models through the years going back to their introduction & this one is by far my favorite. A keeper to be sure. I Like it so much that I just added it's little brother to the collection; the model 60 Pro, also a very nice little revolver.

I ordered one and received it on Thursday. Going right back to the factory. It appears that the the three screw holes in the sideplate were not properly countersunk. All three screw heads stick up like warts. The screw under the wood grip was a round head instead of a flat head and it pushed the wood grip away from the frame over an 1/8". I have been buying S&W revolvers for over 30 years and this is the first one that I have had to send back.

I would be very leery about buying anything new right now. Everyone is in full production trying to keep up with demand that quality control has gone by the wayside lately.

This is the 4th S&W revolver that I have purchased new since the SHOT Show. All were manufactured this year, but the 686SSR was the only one with any quality issues.

Sgt Preston here. I just now got back from the gun range where I was dialing in the sights on my new SSR. I've shot about 500 rounds down range in the last 3 week & I really like my new SSR. I was just putting the final touches on dialing it in today. It was shooting about 1 O'Clock on the bull & I just wanted to center it. It's good & dirty now & I'm going to give a good clean up this afternoon. +1 for the SSR. Hope this helps. Sgt Preston USMC LLA
