6906 Mags

Ok, I purchased my 1st S&W pistol (got plenty of revolvers) today. A LEO 6906 trade-in. A little rough around the edges, but the trigger feels good in DA and SA. Can anyone point me to a place for 12 round (or 10 round for that matter) magazines?

Yup, CDNN does have some used factory 6906 mags.

Congratulations on the new baby. An option is to get a 59xx mag and add a "plus 2" adapter. Someone posted the part number around here recently. I use the larger mags for reloads for my 6906. Sometimes the 5900 mags are easier to find than the 6900 mags.

Not at the present, I'm not finding factory 59xx mags anywhere.

Well, ended up at Midway. New factory mags for $33.99 each. Ordered two and a new recoil spring. The only thing that gives me pause, is that about 50% of the reviews at Midway were bad. May be the squeky wheels making the noise, but we will let you know.

Yup..that's exactly what I do with my 6904. I do part-time protection work for a Chicago area CEO and often drive his company car. I like the lighter weight of the alum frame and smaller package for the cross draw holster while driving..but carry 5906 spare mags in case the **** hits the fan.

Update:

The factory mags came in from Midway a couple of days ago. They are not plated like the original one that came with the 6906. Oh, well.

Popped over to a local range during my lunch hour (two with in 10 minutes of my office, woohoo!) to run some factory and reload rounds through them.

I ran about forty rounds through each, plus about twenty through the original. The new mags seemed to function just fine. No failures to seat. No failures to feed. No failures to lock the slide. Dropped free when empty. So, I will assume that they will work just fine.

I will be taking it out a bit more in the future.

The legs on the followers were catching on the openings in the magazine for the magazine catch while reloading the mag. Take the follower out and cut the bottom of the legs on a angle and it will glide right by the opening. Some of those reviews were funny, I'll be glad to give them $5 for each of those junk mags. You have to wonder about quality control , someone should have caught that.

cpeblue, I pulled the new mags and old mag apart while cleaning stuff up after the last range trip.

The followers in the new mags DO have a bevel cut on the one leg that could catch on the cut out. The others are square.

All is good.

I got a brand new 6906 in box that was never fired. It was a Cali Dept of Corrections gun that was never issued with 2 12 rnd mags that say government on them
One filled fine with 12 rounds. the other feed 3 i had to pull it down and fix the leg that was cut to big. And that gun was made in Dec 2007
So they must know they have been turning out bad mags for some time now.
I just ordered 2 new mags for the 4516 that I just got as it was new but no box and one mag
To make a nice trio of 3rd gens
Lets hope that they are made right.

Don't forget Numrich. They have 6906 mags in stock - used, 12-round, factory mags. $33.75 ea, plus shipping. I just received two more a few days ago..... paid $76, shipped.

They may not be new, but they function perfectly. I was/am prepared to order new springs from Wolff for them, if needed. I have 5 used factory 12 rounders now.....and not one has given the slightest problem, so far.
