Here is an interesting article: 7 Signs A Weapon Is Being Concealed That You Should Know - Campus Safety Be sure to click on the slide show to see the actual 7 signs.

I find it interesting that at no time do they mention that the person concealing might actually be a good guy who is legally carrying.

However, this is an interesting read for us, the good guys. If you've been carrying for a while, you're probably more natural looking. Even so, you may have developed some habits that give you away and you don't even realize you're doing it.

Take a moment and critique your own carrying style and habits.
  • Do you adjust your belt when you stand or get out of the car?
  • Do you inadvertently touch your gun through your concealment? I find a lot of those new to carrying do this and don't realize it.
  • Have your spouse or friend critique your concealment. Maybe you're printing and didn't realize it.
Is your clothing sagging on one side?

I also noticed that the article specifically says to look for someone not swinging their right arm normally. I guess us lefties have nothing to worry about. ;)

They mention people walking around "with a shotgun in your pants". Certainly has the "anti" slant to it.

Well after reading that I guess I'm only guilty of one of those, I do on rare occasion make adjustments after sitting for a long period of time.
I don't pocket carry so that doesn't even apply, I never open carry in public, I can go with shorts and a tee shirt and my weapon doesn't print. I think that many here have carried for a long enough time that most of this doesn't apply, most of the time I don't even notice that I'm armed and it seems second nature to me.

That is one of the dumbest, no, stupidest articles about concealed weapons that I ever read.

I agree with andy52 - sometimes I have to make adjustments but my weapons never print, I don't move my arms funny, and since I am not violating any laws I don't care what a police officer thinks about how I look, walk, act, etc. So I act like Ringo Starr and Buck Owens -

ALL YA GOTTA DO IS ACT NATURALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Hmm . . . an unconcealed handgun is a sign that a weapon is being concealed? Hoodathunk?
Yeah, that is funny, but the pictures didn't display what they were really getting at. I think they were intending something like this:

A lot of people take articles like this as though it is an assault on legal concealed carry; it's not. This is an article written in an internal publication to those that attend that particular college. Considering the fact that there have been a few shootings at colleges, it's not unreasonable to attempt to educate the attendees on what a potential bad guy concealing a gun might look like.

We were out to dinner w/friends once when the guy asked, in a nice loud voice, if he could borrow my gun to speed up our service. He was joking but other diners turned around to look at us. Talk about being outed!

About 15 or 20 years ago....
I attended a deal put on by the U.S. Attorney's office along with the ATF, as an in-service class
on this subject....It's focus was on firearms CC of gangsters. I guess collage snowflakes need something to do.

On another note,
I was a totin one in a nice OWB holster at an up scale restaurant...

I removed my sport coat and draped it over the chair back as to cover
my S&W revolver. Some time or another our waiter past by our table
and discreetly asked, "Are those Keith Brown stocks?"
I nodded my head in the affirmative, he just nodded back in approval.

Mom and I were at lunch the other day. The eatery we were at is a nice very small diner 3 or 4 miles across a small town from the campus of a very small college/university. The campus police like to eat here because no college students come there!

There is a Class III LGS about 5 doors from campus and when college students come in they have a deer in the headlights look. They ask question of varying degrees of intelligence. Since the college is on the high end of the price chart, most of these students come from moneyed families, and if engaged in a nice conversation, they speak of their Dad or Granddad shooting skeet or trap. The real surprise is how many correctly properly identify the Class III sub and belt fed machine guns. (None knew what a BAR was though!)

The theatrical department used clone cap and ball revolvers for props in plays, but nobody ever taught them about dry-firing or cleanings. Usually after 3 or 4 productions the revolvers are ruined from corrosion and the nipples are incapable of holding a cap!

One time at the restaurant, I walked by the campus police with a LCR in the back pocket of my bicycle jersey, this prints in every detail. The first time I overheard one officer asking another about the printing, the response was, Open carry is legal in Ohio, so is CCW, so why wouldn't both be! But all I ever got was a nod or a "Hi." The suburban police around here never hassle anyone over a print or legal CCW!

Said friend would have received an *** chewing when dinner was done and we were alone. There is absolutely NO reason to do that. You and or your group may be perfectly comfortable with firearms but that doesn't mean that the general public is.

I'm not usually good at snappy comebacks, but I believe I'd have replied that I thought it was his turn to carry and mine was at home.

I once had a surveilance assignment and dressed for the neighborhood. Of course this meant that the subject visited an upscale neighborhood to see mom and I stood out like a sore thumb. The local cops rousted me as an undesirable and did a quick frisk before moving me on. They missed a 1911 and spare mags. I did get my revenge by memorizing shield numbers and calling the desk sergeant and letting him know how sloppy they were. From his tone of voice at the end I expect they got a right royal roasting.

SFAIK, no California LEA mentions possible legal carry in their training.
