A year or so ago, my 231 got scarce so I got out a can of 700-X I had for years. I loaded some 200gr lead swc's over 4.5 grains. I shot some this morning and they shot quite well and were accurate in my Ruger 1911.

I too picked up 2 lbs. myself, when nothing else could be found. I haven't tried it yet, but probably need to, since I have it on hand anyway.

I have the FS SR1911 myself and really like it-accurate and reliable! :)

It's a good powder, but has gotten a bad rap because it doesn't meter very well in some measures.

You probably know this, but W231 and HP38 are the same powder, and sometimes you can find HO38 when 231 is not available.

My favorite load for light 44 240 SWC. Very accurate and consistent. I’ve shot thousands of them.
700X is a very good powder in my book!

I have a 700x load that is the most accurate and reliable in my 45ACP 1911.

700X was the darling powder for cast bullet, target loads in the 45 acp when I used to shoot NRA Bullseye matches. Last trip to Cabela's and the ONLY handgun powder in the store was 700X, so I snagged a bottle.
Should have bought two....been using it not only in 45 acp, but also 9mm Luger, and 38 special all with cast bullets. It's accurate in all and measures just fine in a Lyman 55 measure or I use a dipper to load small lots. It's a good powder that I had forgotten about.

I have used it for years, as my favorite 25 yd bullseye pistol load is 3.8 gr. HS=-700X, Rem 2.5 and 185 gr. Star LSWCHP bullet for ca 720 fps with a single digit SD. A very mild and accurate load in all my guns.

I tried it for the first time somewhat recently, due to the shortage, in .38 Special. It groups as good as Bullseye and Red Dot, which have been my "go to" target powders for years.

I also tried 800x for the first time as well, and now it's my powder for .44 Magnum target loads, along with a 200 gr. DEWC from Rimrock Bullets.

I used it many years ago for 38 and trap loads and it worked for me.
I also used 800-x for steel shot shell loads, which made 700 look real good in the metering department !!

Kept trying out the "New" powders as they came out and by the time the "Clays" powders came out,
the 700 was hard to find in my area for some weird reason.

Lots of the old timers around here liked working with 700-x and PB...........
Glad to see you snagged some.
Good loading.

I like 700x in my 45 ACP Colt 1991 Gov Mod. Here are a couple of loads that my Colt really likes.

185 gr Rainer FPJ
5 gr 700x
Win primers
C OAL. 1.210"

230 gr Zero FMJ
4.6 gr 700x
Win primers
C OAL. 1.273"
I used Sierra V as a guide on these loads , they used Fed 150 primers.

Your post got me thinking about some 700x I have on hand. Never loaded much of it, but last night I loaded 100 rounds of .357 magnum using my Dillon 500. Nice consistent drops for the whole batch, so I'm not hesitant to use it anymore.
