71st Anniversary

It was March 5, 1952 that I was sworn in to the U.S. Air Force.
I had gone to see the recruiter on my 17th birthday, but it took
a couple of weeks to get my physical and get sworn in. That was
71 years ago. It might have been March 6th. Maybe the 5th was
the day I was discharged 4 years later. Time does go fast when
we are having fun.

Congratulations Phil, I was sworn into the Army 19 years later, almost to the date, but in the first week or so of March. Hope all is well with you and yours.

All you guys who were born after I joined the USAF have reminded me of
the pretty young lady I asked where she had been all my life. She replied
for most of it I wasn't even born yet.

Ah the good old days, as a buff 17 year old Airman, the world was your oyster.
Coincidentally, the following month, the world-spanning BUFF B-52 first flew.
Saw in the news today that Rolls Royce is testing the new engines for the B-52, designed to extend it's service life for another 30 years.

March 6th has been a bad day for me. That's when I lost my dad and best friend. (Back in '07.) Joining the service seems like a much nicer memory!
