I went to the range again this morning and I finally broke the 7500 round mark with my Shield 9. To my surprise, I feed it some Remington Golden Saber 124+P (which it did not like before) and it ate them like no tomorrow. Other than the fact it didn't like said ammo before now, my Shield has been problem free and a pure joy to shoot and carry since day 1. All springs, plungers, extractors, etc. continue to perform flawlessly. The trigger is now as smooth as my shooting buddy's loaded up Springfield Custom Shop 1911. The felt trigger reset is becoming more noticeable with each trip, but this could simply be me getting more accustomed to it. One thing I have noticed the past few weeks is the slide stop is starting to work like a slide release. Insert magazine, and lightly depress like you would with any 1911 and its locked in battery. So either its malfunctioning, or its starting to work the way it should have been designed to work in the first place.
Just to note, I've fed it the Remingtons, Winchester PDX1 147, Win Ranger-T 147, Cor-Bon 125+P, Hornady Critical Duty 135+P, Gold Dot 147 and multitudes of other practice type ammo from SelWay Ugly Ammo reloads to PMC in varying weights, along with a box of Buffalo Bore +P+ 124s that I got on the cheap. From a strictly POI view, it seems to like the Ranger-T and Cor-Bon the best, yet all (currently) feed and cycle reliably.
I mentioned a few weeks ago I have two Springfield's in the EMP line incoming, simply because I really like the 1911 platform. After the past two sessions, I'll be keeping the Shield regardless of how the EMP pistols perform.
To you guys that have experienced problems, I'm sorry those things happened. As with anything man-made, there can be problems, especially when Man is involved. To the others that have had virtually flawless performance, I'm with you...this little pistol is a keeper. I guess I'm finally warming up to the poly striker.
