8,500 troops deployed

Seems like the Guard is suffering from a classic military management method - mushroom management. You keep the troops in the dark and feed them ********. Thought we might have learned this doesn't work during the days of the "Five O'Clock Follies" in Saigon.

I am sure those troops are happy to be used as a "trip wire".

March 8, 1965, there was another "trip wire". Under the direct order of President Johnson, some three thousand five hundred Marines of the Ninth Marine Expeditionary Brigade came ashore on the beach at Da Nang. BY 1968 there were 500,000 US troops there. 58,220 gave their very lives.

Did we learn anything?

Yes, a lot of money was made.

Don't believe me? Witness the middle east.

Time to invest in companies with military contracts, I am sure members of congress will.

Doesn't seem to be going that well there either. I had a former coworker on that one and the stuff in the article (notably from the non political army times) echoes his complaints. Law enforcement for LE problems, soldiers for military problems.

Death, drugs and a disbanded unit: How the Guard's Mexico border mission fell apart
Folks who don't understand the border often think deploying the military there is a good solution. It's not, and hasn't been since 1914.

I would really like to make some comments but forum protocol prohibits expressing my real thoughts about all this. So I will let it go with this I pray
for our service people and that they may not be used as pawns.

From FNC as of 5 minutes ago:

"President Biden made clear Tuesday that there would not "be any American forces moving into Ukraine," though U.S. troops could be moved to Europe in the "near term." The troops may head to NATO front-line countries if Russian begins a large military operation against Ukraine."

Being of Russian, Ukrainian and Polish decent, this one has my attention. My people are from the Belarus area and have gotten the short end of the stick more than once.
As a not so famous man once said, "Can't we all just get along?'

Me too, my brother from a different father. ;)

47% Italian thrown in there.

Ukraine is not a member of NATO. Troops on alert (they are not deployed) will be handed over to NATO if deployed. Ivan the Terrible Putin does not want Ukraine to join NATO, hence his latest actions. The NATO troops, if deployed, will not go to Ukraine because Ukraine is not part of NATO, they would go to adjoining countries and hang out for a while. At the end of the day, Putin gets what he wants, everyone else comes off as complete incompetents, and China takes Taiwan while nobody's paying attention. Just another day in DC.

Also presents good opportunities for Iran to shoot a few missiles toward Israel and N. Korea to do likewise to S. Korea without having any fear of the U.S. doing anything about it.

Yup, excellent point. Iran has joined the soviets and chicoms for a naval exercise, and the fat boy from the north is shooting off missiles like bottle rockets on the 4th.
