$875.00 - how big a mistake did I make?

I wouldn't worry a bit about a few bucks. As mentioned above, it's just a few boxes of ammo.

The important thing is that you got a gun in good condition, which is often not the case. So I'd say you did great.

Thanks, y'all. I actually agree, I just had to vent a little. I did also pay tax; I wasn't including that because sales tax is inescapable.

I always tell folks, don't worry about small stuff, and, as a rule, it's all small stuff.....I agree totally that this is no big deal. The biggest mistake I ever made was letting a goddess marry someone else.......I got over that, too. The money will be forgotten this weekend when I score 250 out of 250 on a self administered CHL test - I am SURE of it.

It's done. Yes, you overpaid, but you now have a LNIB 686 that will last a lifetime and then some. Give it a few days and you'll have other things to worry about and this will fade ;). And yeah, in a few years it will look like a bargain.

YODA, you did not overpay, you just bought 12 - 18 months early.

old bear has few hard and rules, that way I can be free form as needed, but one of my rules is NEVER second guess any purchase or sale. What's over is over.

Now go out and shoot the wheels of your new revolver.

Would you have been happier?

Would you have been happier had you been outbid? I think certain guns aren't as bad to overbid on, like some 3rd Gen S&W semis. Anyway, for a measly amount of money over what you thought the gun was worth you walked away with a 686+.

PS: Look what people are getting for Pythons.

Senior Chief,

As long as you like the gun and it shoots well, the premium you paid will disappear. I've paid way too much on several guns over the years. I stopped keeping track, as it makes me shudder.

I also have a 686-6 Plus that I bought for a premium. It's a wonderful shooter and was pristine. It dates from 2000-2001 and is VERY well put together. The fit and finish is as good as any of the older ones I own.

Enjoy it.

Semper Fi Shipmate!

. The biggest mistake I ever made was letting a goddess marry someone else....

Grannie always said that no matter how pretty, sexy, rich or how good a cook somebody somewhere has said I'm glad that she's gone. Now about the gun. If you had rather have the money you over paid. If you had rather have the gun you got a bargain. Larry

Paid $750 for my 24-3 lew horton in 44 special, same for my 24-3 with the 4"bbl and $700 for a 624 6.5" bbld 44 special. At the time I thought each price was high. Now not so much. The lew horton I have seen go for $1000 on auction sites, the 24-3 with the 4" bbl over a grand, the 624 not much over what I paid for it even with the box, papers and cleaning kit. Then again certain guns are not as popular in different areas. The ones that are usually go for more money. Do I think you over paid?. Yes but what with prices being what they are not all that much. So take it out and shoot it. Frank

Beautiful gun. The fact that its in your hands should soon alleviate any pain that the initial price might have caused. As long as you're happy with the pistol...I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

It has happened to me too over the years. I see it like this. At some point in the past or probably in the future, you may have had or will have a super deal on a gun. This then balances out that deal.
If you have the money to error slightly (as in this case) and get what you want then it is a better situation than to really want it but not have the money to get it.
You did not make the worst mistake possible and in time the gun may even live up to value in these crazy times and you have had the pleasure of owning and shooting it all along .
You also learned a lesson,as I did, in auctions, consider all costs and conditions when that competitive nature overwhelms you when bidding.
Enjoy it and don't look back, that "balance" deal is out there.

I would also like to commend ISCS Yoda for having the stones to post up his less-than-stellar deal.

Too many threads exist touting finds of $400 Registered Magnums, $300 Pre-29s, and other such impossible bargains....yet reality is somewhat more expensive for the rest of us.

We've all made purchases that we aren't so proud of, and few choose to share here and take their lumps. As it turns out, the lumps aren't so bad after all.

In my limited experience, your purchase wasn't that far out of line, especially for a pristine 686+. I bought an R8 at a gun show about a year ago for 1050. I had buyers remorse for awhile but after shooting that sucker for some time I would absolutely do it again. Enjoy!

Counselor, welcome to the club, we've got jackets lol. Anyone in this game has at one time or another paid more than they should've for a particular gun. Anyone that says they haven't, well...............
