952-2 questions

952 question

Hello all,

Just wondering if anyone could give me the break down between the changes between the no dash, -1 and -2 versions of the 952.

In addition, is the -2 the least collectible of the bunch?

I have a chance to pick one up but does not include a box. What should one expect to pay on an example like this and does the box detract from its collectibility ( $ appreciation) in the future?

Thanks in advance for any info.

HC

IMO any 952 is a good gun to buy, there were not a ton of them made. The original carbon steel 952 is likely the most collectible, the stainless models - 5" and 6" came afterward. If I recall correctly, the -1 was for the stainless version and the -2 was for the mag safety....
A box with all the paperwork and once fired brass is always good to have but from a shooter perspective, the gun is the star and these will never be made again, at least the way they were made originally

952 vs Target Champion

I've always wondered how a 952 would stack up against a Target Champion . Anybody out there have both or had the pleasure of shooting both ?

Hi,
Both guns were built the same way, some PPC shooters find the single stack 952 shot better for them than the double stack PPC9 / Target Champion. I believe it had to be because of the grip differences from one shooter to the other. Ammo choice is significant also. I prefer the double stack frame, the single stack 952 allows my fingers to reach too far around.

#7

Yes sir, #7 of the run! The 952-2 was my first PC gun and the one that started me down the dark path! I now have 4 - 5" 952s total. Still need to acquire a billboard -1 and the 6" long slide variations to complete that set. While I'm a big 945 fan as well, the 952s would be the very last guns in my collection to be sold, if I were to liquidate it.

Wow!! That is a great gun to have, congratulations!! BTW, you may already know this but the prefix - KAZ is there to recognize the CNC machinist - Kaz Widor who did a ton of work to produce the first 952 frame/slide kits.

Hope I am posting correctly, I need to get used to how it all works on this forum.
I'm happy to answer any questions I can regarding PC guns, my focus was semi-auto pistols during my time there

Tom, thanks for your willingness to share your knowledge! Your time in the PC shop would probably be the dream job for most of us here! Would you mind weighing in on a very unusual, Magnaported 3566 Compact thart I recently posted? I've got a thread going on it with pics of the gun and box labels here,
Santa came early, M3566 x2!
Another member reports having a similar 3566 5" with similar mods and box labeling.

The 952-2 is a thing of beauty, a work of art. And it is a joy to shoot. I have a thing for stainless pistols. My one and only Colt auto is a gold cup trophy. I have big hands, so the double stack PPC fits my hands better. but you can't go wrong with a 952-2.
