Good day everyone,
What kind of rifling does the 9mm 3rd generation pistols have?
What kind of velocities does it spit out of the 4" barrels with higher pressure loads?
Thank you for your time and help.

Conventional rifling with 5 lands and grooves, right hand twist believe 1 turn in 10 inches, might be 9 inches.

Not sure what you mean by "higher pressure loads". That's gonna vary somewhat from individual weapon to weapon. Mine does 1230 fps with Remington 115gr +P, 1300 fps with Cor-Bon 115 gr +P.

Thank you very much WR.
By high pressure loads I meant the +P's which you nailed on the head.
It looks as if the 5906 meets the ammo makers velocity specs. I was curious where the 5906 stood considering some pistols such as Glocks use polygonal rifling which gives it's ammunition a super boost of velocity.
Thanks again.
Take care

IIRC, Smith shifted from the 10" twist to a slower (16"?) twist back in the 70s. Military/NATO/historical standard for 9x19 is 1", but not in current Smiths (too lazy to fit a tight patch to the bore and check it out).

Since the introduction and adoption by the military of the Beretta 92/M9, some of the ammo companies switched from a 4" test barrel (previous standard for 9x19) to a 5" -- shows more impressive velocities, but not what most 9-shooters carry.

If you believe that one, I've got a bridge to sell you. You can make the money back in 18 months, tops, on tolls.
