Im new to pistols and s&w but i shoot rifles alot. 300 wby mag and a 300 win mag are 2 completly diffrent rounds. Is a 9mm round and a 9mm luger round 2 diffrent rounds as well? Or can i shoot both rounds outa my shield 9? Is the shield a 9mm or a 9mm luger?

The 9X19 (9mm) or 9MM Luger are in fact the same round. You can shoot any variant EXCEPT +P+ pressure ammunition in the gun. I recommend brass case ammo only. No cheapie steel or aluminum cased ammo.

300 Wby and 300 WM are really different rounds. Have you seen a 30 -378 yet? Or a 300 RUM?

I buy good brand name ammo hornady remington i dont buy cheap ammo. So i can shoot 9mm luger and 9mm regular ammo? What is our gun speced to shoot luger or just 9mm?

9mm & 9mm Luger are the same thing. Do a search of 9mm Luger on Google, Yahoo etc... and Wikipedia has a good amount of info & history. Don't be afraid to ask question like this WE all had to learn somewhere & there are good folks here that will steer you in the right direction. I myself don't know as much about long guns, as I would like, so there you go...

9x19, Luger, 9×19mm Parabellum They are all the same thing just different names. 9×18mm Makarov is not the same and should not be used. best weights are 115 gr, 124 gr and 147 gr. I agree no steel or Aluminum cases or no steel bullets. My range checks all incoming ammo with a magnet before I can shoot it.
If you are going to buy a home defense ammo, Hollow points etc, you should shoot the same bullet weight on the range. This will get you used to the aim and feel of the gun with the ammo. I use 124 gr hollow points for my home defense ammo so I pratice with 124 gr FMJ or TMJ rounds.

And 9mm Kurz is .380, not 9mm Luger/Parabellum and should not be used. Other 9mm names which are really .380 include 9mm Browning, 9mm Corto, 9mm Short, and 9×17mm and each of those should not be used.

Rob:

I have also shot Winchester 9mm NATO which is a military load that is about 10% hotter than the standard 9mm Luger round.

Awsome thanks guy now i can be at piece knowing i wont blow my gun
Up thanks alot

Our Shields have well over 1000 rounds on them. We have used lots of different ammo.... brass, steel and aluminum cased. Have used aluminum cased for range ammo with other 9MM handguns and the Shield eats it like a champ. As long as the ammo you use meets SAAMI specifications it should be OK. Google ammo and read all about the pros and cons of brass vs. steel or aluminum.

Odds are you're gonna shoot a lot more per session through your pistol than your rifles. The cheaper brass, 115gr, FMJ rounds are perfectly serviceable for the range. You'll find Federal, Blazer, PMC to be perfectly fine at the range.
