Anyone here who got a non perfectly rounded end on their barrels? I noticed that mine has what looked like unmilled corners on the muzzle. I emailed S&W and asked for a replacement and got a reply, they want me to send the defective one first before they send the replacement and that will mean I won't have an EDC for 2 weeks. Any suggestion how I can persuade them to send me the replacement then I will turn in the old one? Thanks

How about a photo? How many rounds have you fired through the gun? Have you compared it to another gun or are just worried it doesn't look right? More info would be helpful.

I have noticed the same thing on my wife's 9mm but it fires beautifully so I haven't really worried about it. It does feel rougher but unless you are looking for it you don't notice

You're the 3rd person I know who complained about that. I haven't had any online updates but I'm sure that S&W will make it right. It's a bummer that you have to give up the defective one before they send a new barrel back. I guess trust goes just so far.

Offer your credit card for the cost of a new barrel, If you don't return the old one they just charge you for the new one!!!!

S&W's response sounds more than reasonable, if you want a replacement barrel, send in the old one and move on.. There are good reasons for not sending parts out before receiving the part in question.

There are probably protocol reasons why S&W (or any company) would not be able to hold credit card info over a certain period of time.

As with anything in life, they want to see the defective barrel before sending out a new one. Maybe they plan on fixing your barrel. GARY

Are there accuracy problems with the current barrel or is this strictly a cosmetic issue? Post a pic for better answers.

Yes, it really is a bummer to send the defective part first before they will send the replacement to rectify a quality control issue. We are talking about a tool for self-defense here and not some sort of electronic parts that is why I want a replacement. Also, to avoid the possibility of them sending me back the same barrel, refinished.

I have already asked 2 experienced shooters to try shooting withthe pistol And yes, it is confirmed that the imperfection of the barrel muzzle end affects the accuracy so its not a cosmetic reason of some sort. I use the pistol as a self-defense tool and not a museum piece.

I'll side with S&W on this one....

They probably get 10,000 requests a day for new parts to replace defective parts, and I bet 90% of those 'defective parts' aren't bad.

And I'm sure they get a lot of people who promise to send the defective part back, and then forget. And even if they do send it back, it's probably not defective anyway.

So yeah, if your barrel is bad, send it in. What did you do for a SD gun before you got this one? Is this the only possible gun you can carry now? If so, then buy a couple more and enjoy having a herd to choose from when you step out! :p

That is how apple replaced my Ipad4 with a cracked glass. They took my CREDIT CARD and sent me a new IPad and if I didn't return the old on in 10 days they would charge my card

Did you send photos to S&W? You need to post photos here or how can we support you claim?..

I noticed the same thing about my 9mm, but it shoots and operates just fine. The barrel on the 40 is machined much better. I never thought much about it until I seen a few posts about imperfect barrels. I wouldn't worry so much how the gun shoots for others as long as it shoot well for me.

Mine looks like that but not quite as pronounced. Is shoots great. Looks like the Crown wasnt done as well as it could have. Im keeping mine as it is a tack driver.

The pics are a little fuzzy (it can be tough to get the focus right) but it looks like a standard production line crown. I have had worse.

Looks pretty standard to me. I'd shoot it first and if it throws shots all over, then I'd send it in.

Chances are it will shoot just fine... ;)
