9mm shield broke

I have over 2000 rounds through my Shield with no problems.

I ran 1500 rounds through my M&P Pro Saturday(used it as the stage gun at an Expo Stage for 3 Gun Nation), that takes it up to around 6000 failure free rounds.

Let's see a pic of the broken parts next to the XDS...

I waited a year and 3months for this gun. I got it this week on wensday and took it to the range on thrusday and after 50 shots the return spring broke in half, guide rod bent and a broke firing pin. now what the hell s@w ? yes I call as soon as I got home yes they are going to fix it,BUT ITS BRAND NEW. THIS **** SHOULD NOT HAPPEN. THIS IS THE SECOND GUN I HAVE SENT BACK IN A YEAR . I WENT OUT YESTERDAY AND BROUGHT A XDS 9MM AND PUT 100 ROUNDS WITH IT TODAY AND IT WAS AWSUM. I am a s@w fan I have aton of them pistols and rifles, but I am choosing to look else where now. the funny thing of it is the customer rep also told me all the problems about the gun before I could get all the problems told to him. gofigure

One word: Glock.

clip or mags . the same in my book. I have been competition shoot for over 30 years. I know my way around guns . no reloads it was all factory ammo.yes the gun was cleaned and properly lubraciated. sorry for yr 40000 truck not starting but that's to much for a dam truck that will rust out and lost more then half its value wen you drive it off the showroom floor. sorry that a lot of people think that a shield is a cheap gun my wife had a bodyguard that broke the first 6 months. I have several s@w handguns and ars. s@w does make good guns but the man who did a paper on quality control nailed it on the head. I loved that post

I have a 4 week old shield. I ran 3 mags through it and the button on the end of the guide rod assembly, the part you see from the muzzle end, worked its way out 1/4". I pushed it back in and noticed 14 rounds later the "button" was missing. I found out when I was cleaning it later that the "button" is what holds the rod/spring assembly together. That little ol spring has a lot of force!! 2 weeks later and I haven't received my repair part yet from s&w

I have a question of the GLOCK promoters, why are you on this S&W M&P Forum?? I don't have a problem with any other views/opinions, but you could be putting forth the many virtues of the Glock to other Glockers. I don't visit the Glock forums to promote the M&Ps'.

Bob
Maybe they own both guns. I'm here with a M&P40c, but I'm also on HK Pro with a P9S, & on Beretta with 2 9000s. I don't keep all my eggs in one basket. GARY

I also feel your pain. I bought a new Shield 9mm and the yellow sear disconnect lever fell out of the pistol. It was missing the pin that holds the lever in. Sent it back to S&W for repair and just waiting to get it back.

It is obvious to me, especially after the S&W safety warning about the trigger safety, that there is no final inspection of the pistol. After assembly they fire it once or twice but there is no quality control review of the final assembly. That is why you see odd problems with S&W guns.

By contrast, German made guns go to an independent proof house in Germany where each gun is inspected for quality control and then fired and tested for accuracy.

I know it sucks when someone has an issue with their gun but when I read someone that calls it a "clip" when everyone knows the it's call a magazine, makes me wonder if something else is in play here. Have had my Shield for over a year now with about 500 rounds through it and no issues other than my sweat issues that I talked about on another post. S&W will take care of you and that's why we all own S&W, piece of mind.

Someone either trolling or another "gun expert" that will even tell you, "I'm sccchhhmmmmaaaaatttt!!!" in their best Fredo voice.

Funny how I know several people with Shields and other model M&Ps and not one person has ever even had 1 issue with them... Yet this clown claims he bought 2 lemons, I'm not buying it.

I just got mine over the weekend and I have to send it back before even taking a shot. The feed ramp has an indentation at the bottom and the sights are visibly off to the left. I love the look and feel of the shield much better than my glock 27, but am disappointed in their quality control at sw. Never had a prob w g27.

Why did you actually leave the store with that gun? I always visually inspect all important components BEFORE making a purchase? Not to harp, but that should be a lesson for the future... And not to excuse any possible QC issues smith may have, I think you'll find that over the entire industry since Sandy Hook and Glock is no exception, they still have yet to address their massive brass to the face issue (that's why I actually dropped Glocks and came over to Smith). In fact Glock is probably the last company I'd cite as an example of ideal QC or warranty issues.

I am def kicking myself for not inspecting it more closely. I was more concerned about checking for the safety notice. My g27 is gen2, extracts beautifully. With that said I wouldn't buy another glock just bc I hate the grip. I love sw grips, they're the only ones that fit my hand.

Gen 2 27s were pure quality. Likewise my old Gen3 G19 (built in 2008 shortly before BTF was common) that my father now owns is also a gem. I wouldn't buy a Glock, not until they fix the BTF issues and even then, I prefer the M&Ps, the grip/natural point of aim is light years better. I'm sure Smith will make it right and I can see a lot of people making that mistake if they get distracted by the safety check.

One word: Glock.

So someone has a Glock or two that run good an the conclusion is that ALL Glocks are good...WRONG! Plenty of complaining going on on the Glock forums. The reverse logic on M&P's...one bad so all bad...also WRONG!

I don't claim to know more than anyone else but there is a reason people have to wait for a Shield...it is a great gun and the owners love 'em as testified to by the many replies of owners with zero problems. If you are unlucky and have a problem Smith will fix it for free...forever! I'm not seeing much to complaint about except some inconvenience.

If we would hold ourselves to the same standard we hold others this country would solve about 95% of its problems.

I agree with Mike, the quality control is terrible and needs to improve. Far too many failures with these guns right out of the box. All brands, not just S&W, but being a S&W forum, this is where it is posted. Everyone else just seems to love bashing posters for having a complaint. Grow up! Nobody wants to see your bashing or thinks you're a genius. Get a life and maybe you'll stop ragging on people for having legitimate complaints.

Get a life? Unless you work for S&W you have no idea of the failure rate in order to judge QC. You posted just to prove my point of which you missed entirely. I will comment no further as you aren't hearing...too much time on it already.

Don't shoot me, but........

I love my Glock 23 !!! (Gen 3)

Had to do it. ;-)

Seriously though, lots of people own more then just one brand of gun. I'm on the Glock Forum too (and Ruger for that matter) but wouldn't hesitate to talk about my M&P 15-22 over there if it was on topic.

By "return spring" are you referring to the recoil spring or trigger reset spring breaking? Cause my trigger reset spring has broken.. Just spoke to S&W today and they're sending me a prepaid label to get the gun send in... This is the second "brand new" malfunction I've had with my Shield 9mm. This occurred either before or as a result of the very first shot I took with the pistol. My first problem was with the slide stop spring, which was not properly tapped into the front rail group. So when I stripped the pistol down to clean it before I shot it for the first time, I couldn't get the slide back on because the stupid spring was sticking out. Long story short, I fixed that, and then this stupid trigger reset spring broke. Very, VERY frustrated as well! See the pic below of the spring I'm referring to, and also a link to my posts about the first issue I had with this pistol: http://smith-wessonforum.com/smith-wesson-m-p-pistols/327785-shield-9mm-factory-defect-help.html
