A 25-5 For My Collection

Yesterday, I picked up this 25-5, w/3 T's, 8 inch bbl, not a mark on it except for the turn line. I'm a sucker for a nice N-frame and always wanted this model in 45 Long Colt. Non-pinned barrel tells me it is a late production of this model. No box or paperwork unfortunately.

Serial number is BA E74xx. If anyone can tell me the approximate date of production, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

Very nice. Great find.

I have heard about 25-5 issues with Cylinder throat issues but never really sat down to measure mine. What is the correct dimensions so I the OP and I can check?

An easy way to check……clean cylinder, get a .30-06 case or similar place it snuggly in the front of the cylinder and turn it a couple of times. Pull it out and you will see a shiny ring, measure that ring with a dial caliper.
That will give you a pretty fair idea of what you have.
It's a lot cheaper than pin gauges but not as accurate.
I have a 25-5 with large throats and with cast bullets of .454 it is very accurate with a load of Unique. It has cleaned more than a few bowling pins off the table.

I have a pinned barrel 25-5 that doesn't have oversized throats. I don't have pin gages, but a .451 bullet will not fall through.

I basically just shoot full wadcutters through mine, and it's very accurate for a 4"er. New phone here, no pictures yet unfortunately.

Edit: found a picture

I have the same-a pinned 4" M25-5 that will not pass a jacketed .451" bullet.
