After selling my first ever 27-2 which was an absolutely gorgeous Full Target Model- I knew I had made a bad mistake. Even though it allowed me to get my current 3.5" '68 S Prefix 27-2, I knew I had just made a big mistake. I really didn't think I would ever get a chance at another one like it, much less for the price that I got it for. Especially since everything has went up in price recently. & the more time went on the more I regretted selling it. The Full Target Model is just such a joy to hold in hand. Everything is so easy to manipulate. The Target Stocks are beautiful and very ergonomic, the target trigger feels so good, and the target hammer is so easy to manipulate and feels so good as well. There was actually a couple times I had even considered contacting the buyer to ask if I could buy it back. I missed it that much. But, after a little while I just tried to forget about it and be happy with the S Prefix 3.5" - and, I'm extremely happy with her, lol!
Well, fast forward a few months I figured I would just check GB for the heck of it. It was a Sunday evening & we were getting ready to go visit our niece and her husband at their campsite. While looking I found one that was probably even better than the one I had sold. From the description, it was as new in box. And most likely never fired. Well, I thought what the hell, I'll place a bid and if I get it so be it, & if not, not. The bidding was still to end at 9pm that night. So, I placed my bid at $2k. Yeah, I REALLY wanted her. I also knew that where we were going had absolutely no internet or phone service. And, that we wouldn't be home until about midnight. So, if I really want it, I better really place my max bid. Part of the reason I bid that amount was because that's what I sold mine for. So, this one actually being nicer than that one I figured what the heck. I also figured I would be outbid anyways. Well, we finally got back a little after midnight. Lol, I couldn't wait to see what happened with the bidding. I just knew for sure I wouldn't win it.
But, lo and behold I check and I saw that I actually did win her and for even less than what I paid for my original model! The one I sold I bought for $1,500 and I won this one for $1,324 if not mistaken!
Talk about being on Cloud 9!
The only worry I had is that the owner wasn't being truthful about the condition in some way.
But, when I looked at the pics and description and more importantly, his feedback, I was pretty convinced that I am a very lucky man! I reckon i could say that the lesson I learned is to not sell something that beautiful again lol! And, that I can take good care if her and not have any problems with her rusting AND shoot her too. Enjoy her.
And, that's exactly what I'm gonna do.
Well, I can tell ya, that the owner was truthful in his description of the gun. She is just immaculate imo.
Fellas, please excuse the grammer and lack of paragraphs, as I'm just super busy - but, I really do appreciate yall allowing me to share my story. Yall know what it's like to want one if these so bad and then for it to actually happen! Thanks guys
Here's a couple quick pics. I'll try and get some more up tomorrow
The first is the description of the 27-2, then a couple pics and one beside my '68 3.5"

Always most excellent to hear such a heartwarming story of loss and recapture, especially with the bonus of the affordable price.

May this “keeper” serve you well and delight your eyes for years to come. Not to mention reminding some of us to go slowly in de-accessing cherished examples!

Good for you , I sold a 629 no dash years ago that I regretted letting go
I searched for years and finally found it
Owner doesn’t want to sell it lol
Even stopped responding to my emails .
Might still get one if I have enough time

Congratulations! If I am reading properly, you now have it in hand and it lives up to its description? The pix I see in your op certainly make it appear beautiful. Hang onto it and enjoy!

Froggie

Thanks fellas!
Yes, she's in hand , and is just magnificent!
I'll try and get some pics posted today
Thanks again, fellas!

Paul, it would appear that the grips my be icing on the cake. When you start posting more pix, a couple more pictures of the grips would be nice. Are they “book matched?”

Good for you! Sometimes all we ever you do is chase the car, and ounce in a while we finally catch it. Glad it worked out.Fair price IMO.

Full Target Model-
From 1975-1980, all M27-2's were equipped with the wide target trigger and hammer and target stocks. Not all that rare, but sure is that desirable. Yours is just barely older than mine, both made 1977 but your SN is slightly lower (mine is N4479xx), and looks to be the same condition I found mine in. I also got the presentation case and accessories and paperwork. You got a better deal on yours, too, I gave a little north of $1700 for mine, but hey, that's okay, I wanted it. Bad.

I shoot mine occasionally, but want to keep it as pristine as possible, and I have an M28-2 about the same age (1973) and it shoots exactly the same, so it gets more use.

Thank you, sir
Ya know, I apologize if I was making out like the Full Target Model was rare. I realize it's not. I was just wanting to point out, that that's what I really missed - all that goes along with a 3T.
Beautiful one you have as well!!

Great story!

I guess most of us have sold toys we’ve lived to regret only to buy them again later. I’ve done it many times. Since I retired I’m buying replacements for the many guns I foolishly sold over the decades and acquiring new toys I never had. That’s the good part, getting new toys.

I started my career as a photo journalist working my way through college in the 60’s. I purchased Leica and Nikon f equipment and over time sold or traded it. In later years I really regretted it and set out to replace everything which I did and still enjoy using it. I’m actually using almost exactly what I started with and it only took me 50 years to realize that newer didn’t equate to better.

Funny how we chase after newer and better or at least we think it is at the moment and eventually go full circle back to where we started.

You know what, you nailed it!!
That's so very true......especially in my case!
Thank you, for sharing that!

Here's a few more pics, fellas
Fellas, I know there are MANY examples out there that would just absolutely put to shame what I have here.
But, for me this is prolly the best I'll ever do. And, that's very much ok with me lol
I honestly never thought I would get another example as nice as the first one I had. But, like I said earlier, I am just on Cloud 9 happy that I found one and will assuredly hang on to this one. Ya know, my 13 yr old daughter told me the other day, "I like that one" she was pointing to the target model. She pointed out how much she liked the Target Stocks lol
Well, she'll be getting both one day.
At any rate, I wish I could get some better pics, fellas. As they really don't do this 27-2 justice. She as well as the stocks I mentioned earlier look much better in person. & thanks so much for the kind words guys!
Means a lot & is a real part of the fun! Almost as much fun as the chase.

Oh, & btw, she left the Smith & Wesson Factory in November of 1977 - lol, now my bday is in November....could it even be possible that she left the Factory on my Bday???? $90 to find out.......think I'm gonna spin the wheel & find out!!

I'm so Flippin jealous! I too sold a 27-2 6" nickel to get something else that I wanted, and now regret it. I love my new 5" 27-2, but it still bugs the **** out of me. AND NOW, thanks to you (not really but let's go with it), I have to go find one again!

Ha!!
It's sooo worth it, though! Lol. ( & thank you :))
& honestly, can one ever have enough 27-2 's?
I don't think so. :)
