I went to Cabelas today to check on a Sterling Arms .380 that is the subject of another thread. It was still there, but there was a new girl in town.

It ticked all the boxes:

Cheap? Check

Shiny? Check

.32 Caliber? Check

Added checks - original box included.

I love older H&Rs. This one isn’t that old - probably 1979. Personally I don’t think its been fired but its not worth arguing about because I’ll be shooting it tomorrow. I don’t have any .32 S&W either long or short but I have plenty of .32 ACP and as long as that little semi-rim holds fast it should shoot.

(It’s a four inch 733)

I even got some off for my GI discount.

If I survive I’ll post some results.

.32. Got'ta love 'em. One of the joys of .32 S&W long, rifles or revolvers is that they will safely shoot any .32 ammo except .32 rimfire or .32 H&R magnum cart..

Something new on the market that I have seen, is an insert for your 308 or .30-06 rifle into which you load a .32 auto cart. and then shoot it out of your rifle.

Adapters are not a new idea: I forget the name of the firm that made them. I ordered one in .30 Carbine/.30-30. It split down the length of the adapter on the 2d round. Immediately lost interest in the concept.

Several years ago, there was an animated discussion on this forum as to whether .32ACP was safe to shoot in .32 S&W Long wheelguns. It was a split decision.

I would have bought that in a heartbeat. I wasn't aware you could shoot 32 acp in them. I want a 32 revolver but I'm not willing to shell out $400 for an S&W. For that much dough I want something else. Yours is a grail gun for me.

I recall reading Skeeter Skelton talk about stealing 32 automatic from his mother to shoot in a friend's 32 long Iver Johnson. Must be safe if Skeeter did it. But 32 long maxes out at 15,000 PSI, and 32 ACP is 20000. Like shooting proof loads in your gun. So I don't do it anymore. I also no longer shoot 45 ACP in my shaved Webley. I have not yet fired any 308 in my 1917 Spanish Mauser. I believe all three of these cartridges are loaded too hot.

I also don't shoot smokeless powder in guns made before 1900. I know lots of people do it, but I think it's a bad plan.

A friend of mine showed me that about ten years ago. Just clean the chambers well after shooting the .32 ACP's, as they will build up a carbon ring.
