Howdy,

Lakeland gun show was ok today, huge turn out, didn't buy much accept a 4536....

Picked it up from a Good gun buddy after the show, we agreed that if it dident sell/trade I would make an offer, well lord knows what they go for so we agreed on a fair price, kinda hard to tell can't really find much about this one...

Admittedly I'm rather excited for this gun to auctully carry... ya see I've fallen in love with the 45ACP cartridge, because 2 world wars and they don't make a .46 and if I can't do it in 8 I shouldn't be shooting... LOL now that that's out of the way...

I've longed for something all stainless in 45 smaller yet capable, and comfortable to shoot, and frankly I'm tired of the plastic guns, but may become another range toy...

So what's to know about this old work horse? Honestly didn't know they existed....

Erik

That IS an interesting find. Congrats on your new .45! When you’ve had a chance to shoot it, come back and tell us what you think. A long time ago I had a similar model, I think a 4516-1, and it was extraordinarily accurate. I had to struggle with the trigger a bit, but it shot like a house on fire when I did my job.

Here’s a picture of the “recall dots.” Have them on my 4576.

I don’t think S&W was really trying to out-do or even compete with Sig when they rolled out the xx26, xx36 and xx76 series frame-mount decocker pistols.

I believe it was as simple as the FBI demanded it as part of the pistol to fulfill the contract.

S&W 3rd Gens are fantastic guns but the frame-mount decocker system pales in comparison to the Sig design, and I don’t even like Sigs, generally speaking.

I do love the scarcely made S&W variants though. Sweet grab, OP! :D

Collection

I too am very fond of the frame mounted decocker pistols. I have all models except the 4576 & 4526. I am patiently waiting/searching and always on the hunt. I bought my first one a 1026 in 1993. I now have two 1026's & two 5926's that I have found while searching. One might say I am obsessed.....

I have a 1026 and it's my favorite 10mm of all time, I call it my mountain gun, If I was to ever sell anything off, my 26 would never get sold....

The 1036 and 1016 were in the works, based on the 4516 frame. IIRC, one or two prototypes were made...but were TDA variants - 1016. Years ago, a photo of one appeared here. A real Unicorn.

But the 10mm debacle with the Feeb, the emergence of the 40 and a general waning of interest in 10mm killed the idea.

Nice 45! Looking forward to your range report! Regards 18DAI

Correction! I forgot to include in the " I am still looking for" category the 6924... considering the book says only five were made, I don't feel that it is obtainable... in my lifetime anyway.

18DAI, very interesting info about the 1036 & 1013! Thanks for sharing. I did not know that.
