Back home, for now
Nothing special here; just a couple of photos of my 442 .38, which I bought awhile back when I worked LAPD Narcotics. I had a 649, but I wanted something lighter and more appropriate to my daily work. The 442 was the answer. The enclosed lockwork and DAO were perfectly suited to pocket carry (I usually jammed the revolver into my jeans pocket, with no holster) or IWB as an off-duty rig. On search warrants, it rode in my back pocket as back-up to my 4563. I put a set of Micarta stocks on the little .38, made for me by my buddy and retired copper John Hurst. It now still serves in retirement; this little gun goes everywhere I do, like my yellow lab. Unlike my old lab, though, this one still bites as hard as when it was younger (sorry, Chester). I recently replaced my 27 year-old IWB holster with a new one from Bell Charter Oak.

Nice pics. I've got one that's maybe a little more beat up. It lived a similar life as yours with the Cleveland PD.

Interesting. I was sorta thinkin' I was alone on this forever love my old faithful 442 thingy.

Great story and I bet every time you look at it, it brings back many memories of the street. I know mine does. I've been carrying my 49 since 1994 and it's still pulling backup duty. I bought a 342 years ago - it was lighter, which is nice - but for some reason I'm back to the 49. It just has such an outstanding trigger and has a little personality to go with it.

Your old IWB (I'm a lefty too) holster looks like mine - the one I still use. It holds my Colt Cobra ('68) or my nickle 442 ('92). The 442 is my EDC w/the Cobra serving as back up.

These little guns will do the job if ever needed. Thanks for the pics.

You'll never have a better friend than an old friend! My Chief and I met in 1973 at the NYPD Equipment Bureau (for the princely sum of 50 something dollars) and we are still friends to this day. We are both a little older and perhaps not as trendy as the new kids on the block, but still travel together. Too many good times and bad times with each other to go our separate ways.

These are my favorite kinds of threads.

What a wonderful friend you have. Thanks for sharing!

My model 36 served my watch commander well before he sold it to me in 1976. It still serves me well in an uncle mikes pocket holster. As my eyes are not as good now I put a set of LG 105 laser grips on it.
