A case of missing pieces.

I have a partitioned case that came with a S&W Model No 2 inside and nothing else, that looks like it might be have been supplied either by S&W, or perhaps a distributor.

The Model No. 2 has a silver plated barrel and frame. The hammer, ejector rod, and cylinder are gold washed. The grips are mother of pearl. The barrel, frame and cylinder are nicely engraved.

I have seen other cased Model No. 2’s with these same partitions that had a wiping rod above the barrel, and a box of cartridges in the compartment on the lower left under the barrel. The other two compartments are often empty.

What would have been originally supplied in the compartments under the cylinder and the upper right?

For openers, this doesn't have the first thing to do with cased No. 2's; but with a cased .44 D.A 1st Target (Lyman Ivory Slide)---4", with ivory grips yet! The case was presumably period correct, contained the gun, a polished brass wiping rod, 12 rounds of ammunition (each in their own little hole), and that's it---as best as I recall.

Continuing with my best recollection, there was a small compartment---presumably for patches, and that's my best guess for that of yours under the cylinder. Next best guess for that at the upper right is for the key---assuming there's a lock.

I have seen small oilers and stubby turn screws in some of these style cases. I have also seen cleaning rods tucked under the revolver as well. I wonder if perhaps nothing was placed in these cases except the gun and owners bought a box of ammo and accessories they thought they needed?

#2 Army caes

Here is a #2 Army that is cased (not engraved however) with accessories. There was a screwdriver in the same compartment as the oilier that I removed for some reason. The case is marked on the inside of the lid: M. W. Robinson New York. Gives you a idea what a dealer case may have had in it.
