I'm still pretty new to collecting Smith and Wesson revolvers. I've learned a lot from the group and I really appreciate all the help I've gotten here.

I just took ownership of this M&P .38. It is in pretty pristine condition. I will post more, and better, photos once I get it all cleaned up. It came with much-more modern target grips, which I know are wrong. I had these diamond-cut magnas on another gun and I just put them on the new one to see how they change the look.

I have two questions for now: 1) Since I will have to get new grips for it, would the diamond-cut magnas like this be correct? 2) With a S/N of S 930224, approximately when would it have been manufactured/shipped.

Thanks!

It is a postwar .38 Military & Police model that probably left the factory in August 1947. The 6" barrel is common in that serial range, but in the S prefix series it is the least common of the four barrel lengths that were available.

The Magna stocks shown are too new for the gun. This one would have shipped with the sharp shoulder variety, which appeared from 1946 until early 1953.
