I've had the 686 Silhouette for a while , picked it up at an estate sell for one of the guys from the range . I've always wanted a m29 model , but it had to be right , you know how it is . Found this one and it spoke to me , I knew it was meant to be . They both came with boxes , papers and tools and the 686 was unfired . The 29 looks unfired , not much if any turn line , but that's fixing to change .

Sad part is I had a 586 Silhouette which I let a member talk me out of . If I ever find another , it's never leaving me , at least until it's time for the big dirt nap .

Sharp lookin' guns right there.

I have a Lew Horton .44 mag pre-Classic Hunter (before they had chosen a name for them) with un-fluted cylinder, full length underlug (of course) and the 4 click osition front sight! It has the original box (numbers all match) and two speedloaders. It has Hogue finger-groove grips which I understand was a Horton trademark. I won so many 200 yard bowling pin matches against a gun club from a neighboring state, that they jokingly voted to no longer allow me to compete with this tack-driver. A minor stroke has left my left hand no longer able to handle the weight of this beauty, so I will have to sell it soon.
Those Silhoutte's are really fine firearms. You are a lucky man!

I had one of those , but I let it go . Amazing how you see those for sale and the seller doesn't know it's a Lew Horton or doesn't mention it . Mine had those grips , and it was nib , so I'm thinking you're right . Did you ever set the front sight for different distances ?

I have a couple of those with adjustable front sights (686 and 586]. I don't think the 686 and 586 were designed for silhouette but rather ppc type shooting. I really like them as you can sight them in with different loads.

Smith & Wesson was at least 5 years too late with the 10" Silhouette Model 29. Too bad! It was a great idea and should've had a bigger impact on the IHMSA game.
The first time I picked one up, I was immediately impressed with the incredible sight picture.
Nobody really talks about that! I wonder why?
Anyhow, the tall undercut black front sight looked great in the equally tall rear sight blade with deep notch.
If you can't get great sight alignment with that set-up, you need to make an appointment with your ophthalmologist right away!

Yes I did. 50, 100, 150, 200 yards for bowling pin competition out to 200 yards.

In the past I had them set for metallic shoots,to the same ranges. Very effective, and always spot on when reclcked to change from one to another.
