Three of us couples plus another friend went to sand hollow utah. That is about 15 miles east of st. george. Weather was great and we had a good desert ride. The area is about 50 miles south of us. Here is a few pictures Theresa took.

Yeah, once again, thanks for sharing. I'm here on the right coast not far outside of Baltimore; if it wasn't for work and family I'd be looking for scenery like that.

Those pictures remind me of Fischer's mountain out of Moab.

I always like your pictures and what a place to ride. I should have done things like this before I got so old.

Living in a concrete jungle sometimes we forget how beautiful it is in God's country. Thanks for sharing

Moab is about 290 miles from us. I never rode that area but would like to. This country changes a lot depending on elevation. We live at 6,000 ft and had snow today. I took my plow off for that ride yesterday. The elevation there is about 4,300 ft and about the lowest elevation in utah.
Yesterday it was about in the mid 60s on the ride. In summer it could be 112 degrees there! Go low in winter to that country to ride and ride in the high country in summer. At 10,000 ft a few miles away and down there in elevation at 4,500 ft I would guess a differance of 40 degrees on any given day.
I have posted 4 or 5 rides here. It`s my favorite activity and theresa likes it too. We started rideing 7 years ago when we retired here. The guy across the street has 4 quads lined up for his family members. Its a big thing here. There is also a lot of snowmobiles here but I never got into that. Here is another shot. We are in that snow covered area sometimes in summer, and this will do in winter.

It was a mess up here in Salt Lake City today. Rain all day on the east side of the 15, and snow on the west side!!

Yeah, we live at cedar city. Went to beaver for lunch and got caught in a good snow storm. Guess I have to get my favorite wife to hook up the plow on the quad again tomorrow.

I have ridden around Moab a couple of times, and down by Escalante, but never in the far south of the state. Utah sure has some beautiful country, though, and great off-road riding. You are fortunate (or maybe just smart) to have that country at your doorstep.

Theresa wants to thank all of you for the compliments on her photos. Takeing pictures is her biggest hobby, and she also is a good artist.

Merril, thanks again for taking the time and effort to post your trail ride pictures. Here in the Upper Left Corner, the closest I am to sand and desert is pictures.

I guess this summer I'll have to take some pictures of really tall trees and deep blue lakes to reciprocate. I don't think my cell phone pics of Crater Lake last year are of sufficient quality to post here.

looks like a great ride feralmerril, love the color or that sand - the 4th and 5th pictures are awesome , theresa did great on takin pictures esp the sandstone picture with the bird sittin on top :)
Merril does the area have more than one days worth of riding at sand hollow ? how about places to stay overnight ? what i like to do is be as close to sand hollow without having to drive another 50 miles to a motel . im not keen in pulling our 28ft Toyhauler down that far , Beaver is the farthest South I care to go with towing that big of a rig ... I would gladly tow down the 16 ft cargo trailer yet need more places to ride plus more than 1 or 2 days to justify the drive that far down with fuel costs with what they are ..

give me more info ok

im familar with as far as beaver yet fauther no , thanks kathy

Sure. Its just a 8 mile drive south of hurricane. Hurricane is the jumping off town for zion national park with good motels. I think there is a addmission fee IF you go on that lake or reservore. We didnt pay.
Yes, there is lots of other rideing areas out of there too. Here is another lead to another atv ride we made only a few miles south of sandy hollow last fall. You could stay at either st. george or hurricane and make both rides. Each ride was about 35 miles and usualy about 5 hours. I wouldnt want to do them in the middle of summer though as it gets about 110 degrees on the average. St. george has lots of good resturants and motels and either ride starts less than a half hour out. Also there are other nice rides every direction. St george is 50 miles south of us. We are 6,000 ft, they are 2,800 ft and they are always about 20 degrees hotter no matter what time of the year.
The north rim of the grand canyon is only about another 80 miles south of st. george. You are familiar with beaver, st. george is 105 miles south of beaver and we are half way between. Heck, we go to beaver about once a week for lunch. Also to st. george once a week.
We ride the high country in summer and the lower country desert on nice days in winter.

Hi Merril---

Good lookin as always. GREAT pictures...

have you gone and test rode one of the new rigs yet?????

As usual, great pix of interesting country, very reminiscent of the Moab area. Put me in mind of this little snippet of doggerel --- no prize, but honors to the first forum member to identify the work from which it is extracted, and the pseudonym of its author...

"The Walrus and the Carpenter
Were walking close at hand:
They wept like anything to see
Such quantities of sand:
'If this were only cleared away,'
They said, 'it would be grand!'

'If seven maids with seven mops
Swept it for half a year,
Do you suppose,' the Walrus said,
That they could get it clear?'
'I doubt it,' said the Carpenter,
And shed a bitter tear.

KJM, yeah, I really like the can am commander side by side but I just cant justify the $18,110.37! Not as long as my old 2005 bombardier traxtor keeps running anyway. Its fun to dream though.
