A first time S&W purchaser! Excited!

Wow guys thank you for the amazing welcome party! And all of you from different states that I have no idea where they are! I know someone from New Jersey posted and all i can say is they took our name haha! We had it first. Are there any people on my side of the pond here? If you google the UK on Google maps and look to the south west you will see tiny islands in "channel waters" that is me a little island called Jersey.

I have my 1500ppc open next week so I am excited we get a lot of shooters over from germany, france etc etc so will be a varied crowd.

Have a great weekend guys!

Welcome from Northern Oklahoma!!!! My latest S&W is a Model 610, a 10 mm revolver. Mine has a 4" barrel and uses moon clips.

It's good that you can still own handguns in Jersey.

Again, welcome!

Welcome !, and congradulations on your fine M686 .

I have read that PPC aka 1500 was/ is actually more popular in UK/ Europe than in the U.S. Indeed , the NRA restricts Sanctioned PPC to Law Enforcement . Back in the 1980s the National Marksman Shooting Society ( NMSS) did open competition to non- LE ( with rules essentially identical to NRA's , and allowing the use of reduced targets for venues with limited distances , and a local to me commercial indoor range did hold a sanctioned Monday Night League . Also many Gun Clubs would have non- sanctioned Club Matches .

I always had used conventional front sights . At my level of abilities , using a center hold wasn't my limiting .

I won't mention their names because they were well known enough to compromise my usual internet discretion , but I had the enlightening opportunity to observe two very good PPC shooters . Very Good as in regularly taking top finishes @ the NRA National Championships .

Great first pistol

I started reading your post and was confused.
You're from the original Jersey.
Welcome from NEW JERSEY!
Many 686 lovers here. Yours is a special one
ENJOY! Safe shooting

Haha yes I get that a lot. People always presume I mean New Jersey and wonder why I do not have an accent. I am very much looking forward to using it. I have heard rave reviews about it and many people have one all in different variations. I do know I am one of perhaps 3 in Jersey that are the -3 variation.

Thank you for all your well wishes and information on it. I must admit there is also rather a few S&W handguns here too.

I do love my 686 but there is a few of them but at our club there is one old chap who has a 586 and I do think it looks really good blued! Hardly used as well. He has about 20 revolvers including his own Webley Scott he had during the war!

I wish you all luck in your competitions this weekend if you do any.

I have learnt a lot from someone DM'ing me about how varied all of your different states are with Gun control. I actually do think that some places are stricter than US! by the sounds of it.

Oh I have one question. As I get so many varied answers....how often should I clean it? Every match> every few? What is the "rule"

I'd clean it every time you shoot it. It will still function if you don't, (one time I put 400+ rounds through my 681 to see if not cleaning it would affect the function--it didn't) but it is a good habit to get into.

Hope this helps.

Here is a map showing where Thomas lives. From wikipedia.

The area to the east is Normandy (France).

Yeah thats it! A little island 9x5 miles with around 90000 people on it.

It takes around 50 minutes to get from one side to the other an hour at the most so the thought of the size of the USA and all the states absolutely flabbergasts me haha!

I couldnt imagine travelling for hours in a car or on public transport it just is not a thing here. No trams, no trains, no tubes. Just buses/cars/bikes and well horses!

It is a lovely island very warm right now as it is summer.

Oh yes there was another question I had to ask you all about my revolver. Obviously i want to practice and get used to the single/double action but I have been told very bluntly that dry firing is a BIG nono and to get some dummy rounds? But then other say it is fine to use spent rounds as the primer is soft?

I would rather err on the side of caution and ask the experts like you guys! I cannot afford to break the thing as soon as I got it.

My first comp on Friday with it.

Have a great week guys!

Welcome from the other Jersey (the one that has "New" in front of it). When asked where we are from in the states we would generally respond with just "Jersey". My granddaughter's softball team, in fact, is named Jersey Impact and we have the Jersey Devils hockey team.

I have a new version 586 (-8) and it is my favorite of the five handguns I own. No competitions here - just target shoot for sport/fun.

I dry fire a lot using A Zoom snap caps in all of my center fire guns. They are a high quality product. My understanding is that you can safely dry fire without them, however, I prefer to err on the side of caution. if you can't find them locally, they are available on line.
