US Veteran
My daughter and me were eating lunch and there was a nice looking black couple, probably in their fifties, sitting across from us. I noticed that he kept glancing at me and he finally came over and asked are you really a WWII Vet?
I assured him that I was and he said could I get my picture taken with you. I said if you don't mind ruining your phone it's fine with me.
My daughter knows that I don't like to have my picture taken, too many trips to the skin doctor and too many years. She was sitting there enjoying it, but I really didn't mind, he seemed like a nice person.
My fold-up walker was beside me and he moved it and squatted down beside me and I put my arm on his shoulder and smiled. He was happy and talked for a few minutes. He had read how fast we are disappearing. He apologized for interrupting our lunch and went back to their table.
That is the first time anyone but family and friends have ever wanted their picture taken with me.
It's not just WWII Vets, there are not too many Korean Vets around and the ranks of those who fought in Vietnam are thinning pretty fast.
