A fix is in for the S&W AR-10 barrels

For all who may be interested...
I sent my complete M&P10 upper to Black Hole Weaponry. I was looking for a 7mm-08 heavy barrel. Here is what we found:

The bolt and barrel extension are proprietary to S&W. BHW found that a DPMS BCG and extension will work in the S&W upper receiver.
.

Do I understand this correctly, to change barrels all I need is a DPMS barrel and BCG?

Man this is some awesome news. I will be calling BHW in the AM and discuss with them about putting a new barrel and BCG. Get that proprietary **** out of that gun

What about building a new upper/barrel/ bcg and slapping it on the S&W lower?

From what I understand about the m&p is that the upper and lower are also prepriotory. So no upper on the market will work with the m&p lower.
I have talked with the people at black hole weaponry and they will build a barrel and use the factory barrel extension so that it will work with the factory BCG. I will be sending my off soon and will post a review when I get it back. 3 to 4 month wait time.

I may be missing something here because I think the S&W M&P line of " modern sporting rifles" is pretty good value, at least my M&P 15 is. That said, before I pump a lot of money into what seems to be a flawed product, I think I bite the bullet and trade it for a DMPS. Surely the cost of all the machine work and replacing parts can't be any less expensive the the purchase of a new rifle. I don't mean to start a flame here, but just my opinion. I have been considering getting an M&P 10, but I think I will look at the DMPS.

I understand what your saying. It is the same logic that causes someone to buy a Remington 700, then throw away the barrel the stock and the trigger and send it off and have the action trued and an new barrel, stock and trigger installed. They could have bought a GAP Rifle already don't for that price. But don't we do the same thing with 1911's, cars, computers etc? There is something about customizing something that you already own that makes it uniquely your own. If you saw what I did to my M&P, most people asked why, but to each their own. I think also it is easier to to things in small increments and enjoy it as you go than to try to outlay the cost of something fully customized out of the box. If I had to save 3 grand for a custom rifle, usually something comes along to unexpectedly consume that money like a roof or car repairs. But a few hundred a month I can usually siphon off for a project.

Barrels!

Thank You, Mr Bergermeister!!! Is everyone calm now?
Panic over a situation that S&W obviously doesn't want to deal with for whatever reason? Somebody will profit where S&W doesn't want to ! For whatever their(S&W) reason!
And there will be more machinists and smiths making barrels than BHW! Proprietary is another word for obstacle! In this world somebody always finds a way around them. I know this post will be out dated but I'm glad everyone can relax now! I have a machinist friend he did me a conversion barrel 40 to 9 for my Shield! It's only a matter of time!

Is the replacement bcg or barrel from a specific manufacturer or wil any dpms compatible part work. I just purchased a bare receiver set for my first 308 build and hoping I didn't waste my money. Thanks for any help.
