A friend of mine is looking to put his 1988 K frame model 19-5 for sale. He is not sure what would be a good price to get for it. He says it probably has 200 rounds through it. The revolver has been in a drawer since 1996 and hasn't been shot. Any help would be appreciated!

It's a desirable model and it's wise to have kept the original grips. I could be wrong, but I think I've read here revolver prices tend higher in Missouri. It's post pinned & recessed, and pre-lock and MIM. Based on all that, and a 98% condition, I'd say $650 to $850 at retail. Box would of added another $50.

With your great photos, you'd have no problem selling it on-line and getting top dollar.

He thought that the grips were the originals, How can you tell that they are not? Sorry not very knowledgeable of revolvers.

Enhance your potential profit

It would make it easier to evaluate if all the oil was removed, cleaned with a solvent based cleaning product or denatured alcohol and then apply a coat or 2 of Renaissance Wax. If it is going to sell online remember that is all the potential buyer has to assess it by. It always annoys me when someone on GB can't take the time to enhance their own sale due to being sloppy and not doing the basics to allow the buyer to make a judgement. I usually just keep moving as I know that one indicator will probably prevail through the balance of the sale. See like this.

He's telling you that those are original stocks for that gun,or at least correct stocks for that year .

It looks nice and the story fits with a lightly used gun. Having said that, I think it would be a hard sell at $650 but it might get close - an earlier version with different features would go for that amount or more.
