A modest 'J' frame collection

A few 'J' frames I've picked up.

On the left:
3" model 940 9mm
2" model 940 9mm
3" model 49 .38spl. nickle
2" model 38 .38spl.

On the right:
3" model 632 .32mag. 1 of 440
2" model 632 .32mag. 1 of 990
2" model 631 .32mag. 1 of 190, not 'Lady Smith', is product code 103664
2" model 38 .38spl. flat latch

On the bottom:
2" model 317 .22LR

The 631 was the first. It got me started. I bought it for my daughter. She can't own it where she's living now. I didn't realize how rare it was at the time - just a nice piece that she liked. The 317 (pre-lock) found it's way to my door when a friend of a friend needed some money. Too good a deal to turn down.

I bought the 2" 632 with the intention of CCW and then found out how rare it is. Then I handled a 3" 632 and was impressed with the balance. One thing has led to another.

I have found a few rare ones and it's nice to have a place to share them like this forum.

The 3" 940 is the latest one. Just showed up, ANIB w/box, at a local 'pusher' just a couple of miles from my house a couple of weeks ago. Never thought I'd see one in Ca. much less in my town! They are not on our 'safe gun' list and can not be 'imported' into Ca. Feel very lucky to have found it.

Hi all. Please pardon my ignorance but...can you shoor 38 specials in a 940?

No .38spl in a 9mm.

No, one can not shoot .38 Special in a 9mm.
While the bore is almost the same (just a 1,000th or 2 difference), the chambers are different. I believe the chamber is too short in the 9mm. Case diameter is also different and may result in bust cases.

One might have a .38 spl. cylinder and swap it to have a 'convertible'. I've heard of folks on this forum going the other direction - putting a 9mm cylinder on a .38 spl. It would be cheaper to buy a .38 spl. then to try to convert the 9mm to 38. Lots more 38s were sold.

I don't know why a big, strong man would want all those dinky guns; especially those wimpy .32s and those funny-looking hump-back things.!

I however, am small and weak, and I'll take some off of your hands so no one knows you have that many!

While I do have some 'N' frame .45s and a 10mm, not to mention some .357mags, as I approach the autumn of my life, I'm thinking that in another 20 years or so, the .32s might be just the trick.
The humpy-back thingys do slip in my bathrobe unnoticed - no one at "The Old Folks Home" will know as I doddle along in my robe and slippers.
However, I'll keep you in mind, assuming, of course, I don't set my mind down somewhere and forget where I put it.

My more modest J-MIM's

That's a nice little group you have there. Snub J's are so nice to own, they go right in the pocket in a tiny little holster. I had an all-steel model 40 for a while, but somehow all of mine now have alloy and mim parts, but no locks. Guess I like them light. My 4" 63 stayed in the safe for the photo. Shown are a 337PD, 442-2, and a 317, so light it nearly floats, so it goes fishing with me.
