Someone went to a lot of trouble making that box. Nice work.

By the way, 686s belong in the next forum, from 1980 to present day. Just saying'.

I will be making them.

I'm working on a coffin in pine.

I made this oak box from material I had on hand. When I went to buy more I couldn't find oak in the same dimensions I used for this one. So, any future boxes will be pine.
 
Very nice piece, that level of craftsmanship takes a lot patience and attention to detail. My Dad used to do the same kind of work, and he liked to use old post office box doors to build banks, jewelry boxes, and gun boxes. He got most of his wood from old houses and barns that were torn down, and always had a good supply of oak, walnut, cherry, and chestnut. I bought a new 686 in 1982, and Dad gave me this custom box for Christmas that year.

Yes, I think a padded piece on the inside of the lid would look great. Well, it already looks great, but you know what I mean.
