Well, if you didn't catch it, our latest winner, @jdlii, claimed a brand new 686!

I boxed it up myself and shipped it off to his FFL, but not before snapping a few photos.

Big thanks to everyone who entered! I can't wait to see what we give away next time.

So please join me in congratulating @jdlii and let us know in the comments what you'd love to see in the next giveaway. We're all ears.

Here's a thought...give away something (doesn't have to be a gun) to anyone that becomes a supporting member as a condition for entry...shouldn't be too difficult to keep track of who upgrades immediately before entering.

I appreciate all of the congratulations. The 686 was delivered to my LGS on Monday and was recovered yesterday.

What a great looking revolver. I will have to do a comparison and check the weight but, it seems to be heavier than a pre lock 686. The grips, while not the wooden grips a lot of us a used to, are extremely comfortable.

It needed a good cleaning since powder residue was showing it places but, it cleaned up nicely. The single action phase of the trigger is not bad and in double action, it is a little stiff but, hey it's NEW!

I will post a range report soon.

THANKS SMITH & WESSON FORUM!!!

INITIAL SIGHT IN AND RANGE REPORT

Well, I finally have gotten the best item that I have ever won in the condition that I wanted and took it to the local indoor range after lunch. There have been many posts regarding various issues with the post 1980 S&W revolvers.
After receiving this beautiful revolver and literally taking it apart to inspect and modify to my liking, with the assistance of good friends, no flaws or issues were observed.

All firing was done at the range of 10 yards, standing using a two hand hold. The ammo was my reloads using AA#2, Winchester cases, Winchester SP primers and Everglades 158 grain HP bullets. The first several shots were very low and almost off of the target. Fortunately, my friend and highly proficient Gunsmith, Howard Pitts, was present at the LGS/RANGE returning a few firearms that he expertly repaired for their owners. As a side note, Howard had just returned from the Bisley, England Matches. Howard is a former National Small Bore Champion and accomplished that achievement on the shores of Lake Erie at Camp Perry, Ohio.

The attached photo shows the results after Howard was able to "free" the elevation screw to allow full adjustment of the rear sight. The first six shots, after adjustments, was fired SA and the second six were fired DA but, slowly.

To say that I am pleased, if not thrilled, would be an understatement!! This is an extremely accurate handgun and I have only scratched the surface of its capability. Any one considering the acquisition of a new S&W 686 should throughly check one out and if, satisfied with the fit and finish, buy it without hesitation.

Thank You S&W Forum!!
