A point of view from a Missouri resident

The local news reported that some demonstrators picked up by the police were reported to be from as far away as California and New York. That makes you wonder if someone is not financing and orchestrating at least a part of this.

There are no A's in Missouri. I have no idea where the Missourah pronunciation came from.

I had a couple of friends from Missouri (Mark and Mary Allen) and they did pronounce it Missourah. Howeer, they may have been Hillbillies too. :D

The only time I've ever been to Missouri was to help my son move there when he got a job at Whiteman AFB. He lived in a little town called Knob Noster. He eventually met and married his wife there.

I thought it was a beautiful state.

Very distinct area ! Beautiful mountainous area surrounding the area..:)

I don't wonder, when I see the same faces making the same speeches no matter if it's in Florida or Missouri, that convinces me.

Opportunists abound..Keep in mind the area where the conflicted area and riot's are happening is only a 5 block area..

My advice, get the press out of the area..Anyone covering their face will be detained..Peaceful demonstration's during daylight hours should be allowed as long as the protesters do no congregate..

Where are the outsider's parking their vehicles ? Vehicle license plates can be readily scrutinized by the police..It is done all the time, simple drive by ,the police have the ability..It is all done by a camera and recognization of plates..It is used all the time to alert police of a stolen vehicle .

I lived at the corner of Lafayette and Nebraska until I enlisted in 1965. I think the Lafayette Park area is still fairly quiet. Haven't been back there for a long time.
Edit: It's pronounced Missouree.

With apologies to Jimmy Webb

Ferguson Oh Ferguson
I can smell your tear gas blowing
I can hear your bottle throwing
I clean my gun,
And head for Ferguson :mad::mad:

This may be a little off subject. But since you can't turn on the tube without hearing about Missouri and the talking heads can't seem to agree maybe a Missouri resident can set things straight. Is it pronounced Missour-ie or Missour-ah?

I'm the fifth generation of my family to live in NE MissourAH and my children and grandchildren live in the same state! :D

Well, a MUCH different demographic has taken over Tower Grove Park. Walk there at night and the bushes might whisper to you...

Whisper RUN......To bad they had tennis courts, a wading pool, organized things for kids to do''''

As a kid I loved it..We had a beat cop named Whitey that kept us kids straight. He seemed like a old guy then...heck anyone over 20 seemed old then.

I used to get a bucket of draw beer for my grandpa at the corner bar. Never was even tempted to partake...How times change....Later as a 3rd district copper I remembered all the corner stores with the little weekly ,credit tablets....

Then as a copper I took advantage of the Tap Room after shift. What a place.......Did I say there was the Tap Room......

I love it here. Pretty near Arkansas . Lived in St. Louis the first 6 years of my life then moved down here. A car went by my house today and that was exciting. Now that the Grand Kids, that I'm raising, started back to school, the school bus will be here twice daily. Sometimes I order stuff from Brownells, just to see the mail lady.
Very peaceful, quiet.
To the person that mentioned Russell Ave in St. Louis, I used to drink a lot of beer at Hoppers bar. It was at 12th and Russell.
The closed caption got it wrong and spelled it Misery on the news.
Peace,
gordon

My Mom's side of the family is all from the Moberly, Mexico, Montgomery City area. I love that area of the country and know that the behaviors being exhibited in the Ferguson area in NO way represents the feelings of those from the Show Me state.

Yep pronounced Misery ;)

Dad moved us out of Detroit after the riots to Wichita. Then Wichita started cross bussing about the time I started school, so he packed us up and moved us to Springfield MO in 1971. Spent pretty much my whole life here but I prefer the smaller towns. Springfield is a hole.

Lots of memories of Ferguson, grew up there. Dad worked at Ford in Hazelwood. Grandfather was a web pressman at the Globe Democrat. Uncle was a cop in St. Louis. Folks I knew worked a Fisher Body, Emerson, McDonnell-Douglas, Ford etc. Good schools, nice downtown, bus service to Cards games, Fish Frys at Church, Forest Park for the Muny in the summer, Khoury league baseball all summer long. I basically left after high school, went home to visit. Mom passed and Dad retired moved to Colorado. Oh, BTW, it's Mizzura..

When all this broke out, I said - whatinthesamhillis going on there. Not the place I recall.

Based on google aerials, the old neighborhood still looks the same, most of the neighborhoods do. Nice solid middle class neighborhoods, lots of trees, but lots of new apartments (well since I left-don't know when they were built) and lots of new box stores.

Only took a few rotten apples to spoil the barrel.

Once in a while I would play hooky, grab a book and go to Tower Grove park to read. Once I had one of those extremely urgent needs to hit the head. The toilets are not a good place to visit. I haven't gone back to Tower Grove since. Luckily I did not have a gun. I may well have gone to the pen for a long time.

National news makes it sound like a ghetto. Ferguson was actually making strides forward.

All those manufacturing jobs are long gone.

Can't help but think if story would be different if we still had those thousands of jobs here.
