Do .223/5.56 comps work for .22 LR stuff? I would think the calibers are close enough it would be okay. But, I thought I would ask before I ordered a different one for my 15-22.

Thanks,

You cannot break down the .223 cans for cleaning. The .22 round will quickly foul things up.

AR comps don't do much for a .22LR round. However if you use your 15-22 for any kind of speed shooting competition it is a good idea to stick a cheap AR comp on it because they will make the noise to the sides louder enabling a shot timer to better pick up the rounds as they go off. Only requirement is that the comp has at least 2 big side ports. I use the Nordic Tactical Comp because it fits the requirements and costs only $37, and also matches the color and diameter of the S&W barrel pretty well.

Normally I shoot my 15-22 with a suppressor mounted. When I do not, I use a Smith Vortex flash hider. I use the Vortex because it does a good job of flash suppression on the rifle, protects the threads when the can is off, and mounts with only hand tightening. Its design is self-tightening and it will come off with very light torque with a small wrench after use. Thereby avoiding the potential issues of loosening the barrel mount during removal.

I have had my eye on the Smith Vortex for a little while now, nice to hear a good review on it. I hadn't looked at the Nordic one yet, I will have to do a little review reading on it if I can find them. Thanks a bunch for the help everyone.

Cheers,

Here's one more ...

AM-1 Muzzle Brake - Black by Tacticool22

I have them on my 10/22 and 77/22 but haven't had a chance to shoot with them on yet.
That is similar to the TacSol one I use on my 597. But those small holes do not help the shot timer pick up the sound of the rifle firing.
One other comp that works both for sound and the small amount of muzzle flip is the Allchin comp, which is designed for .22 pistol raceguns. He now has some specifically designed for .22 rifles including this one made specifically for the 15-22. I know they work because not only did they win my comp test on RFC they won the one done by Teamrimfire. com also.

That's why I like the one from TS; designed for a pistol and works nicely on the 15-22.

I took delivery yesterday of my new Allchin 15-22 comp. I will be trying it out during the next few weeks to see if I plan on shooting the 2013 RRWC with it on my 15-22.
