I picked this beauty up Saturday at an auction in Michigan. I could'nt pass up the 3" barrel, although I'm not crazy about the patridge sight.
Serial number places it as a 1964 build, but Supica's notes say the 3" didn't come out until 1965. Either way, I'm way happy

I would appreciate hearing any info on the 3 inch the members would like to offer.

The frame just may have been made in '64 , warehoused , and not assembled into a pistol till '65.

Either way , I HATE U! I've been looking for a 3in 19 for years.

Scheebs - very cool gun. Do the grips number to the gun?

SmithNut will be along sooner or later and have something to say about this

Looks like a neat gun, but I question whether it came from the factory in exactly that configuration.

Great find and a super gun. Please let us know how it shoots.

It is a huge waste of bandwidth.

Congrats, It looks right to me. Lettering centered, 2 pin front sight, patridge and all.

Could it be one of the very first 3" K frame magnums? Very possibly so.

Don't let Smithnut see it ,,He'll be all over that like a duck on a Junebug!

Boy o boy, I'd love to have it to keep my 'new' 6" 19-2 company.

Is the ser # in the K590xxx range?

And I'm sure I speak for all of us when I ask; Was it expensive?

Regards , ,Al

Scheebs:

I found that auction on a search several weeks ago and made a mental note to get registered and bid on it. Somehow it slipped my mind, so I'm glad that it went to someone on the forum. I too was curious as to the gold bead in the front patridge sight - kind of gives it a RM look... In addition, the way that the front ramp sat with the exposed pins made me wonder if maybe it was a 4" that was cut to 3" with the ramp and sight added - BUT even when I looked at it in the auction photos and compared the roll marks on the barrel, they are consistent with the placement of the roll marks on my 3" 65's and 13's AND not consistent with the placement of the roll marks on the 4"ers.

Looking forward to what a Jinks letter says. Please keep us "Combat Magnum-a-holics" posted on what you find out.

Congrats!

Speculation but a gold bead patridge seems like an unlikely factory offering on a 3" gun. I don't know much about placement of the markings on the barrel to be able to verify if it was originally a 3" barrel.

The smooth target trigger doesn't seem original, suggesting modification, so maybe the barrel is a bobbed or a later replacement, at which time the front sight was added.

Nice gun.

Thanks for all the input. Interesting guns will always cause interest, and that's why I go for them.
As for this one, serial number is K5916xx. If you notice, it's a round butt, so it didn't start out as a four inch. It could have been a 2 1/2", but would someone really go through the expense to add a half inch? And the blueing is very consistant, which would suggest original.
Either way, this gun will get lettered, but I understand Mr. Jinks isn't accepting new requests because of a severe backlog of work. We'll have to wait and see.
Keep up the comments, this should be fun.

Congrats on your find, Scheebs. Super cool gun!

BTT, where is SmithNut?
