In my quest for new toys, and the wife's desire to keep my hobby financially neutral, I may end up turning loose of one of my more cherished pieces.
It all started a couple of weeks back when I traded a Gunsite SW1911PD for an AR. The lightweight 1911 had been made superfluous by an all steel 4" STI. The AR was a spikes rig, flat top, floating handgaurds, and had almost zero rounds through it. Not a single scuff mark on the BCG or bolt face. The only downside was that it was in 300 blackout. Ammo seems to run north of $1.50 a round, when you can find it, which is probably why the original owner was willing to trade. Luckily, I reload. I added some 300blk dies to my supplies.
All in all, it's a fun package, but had me hankering for a 556 upper. Looking in the safe, I have another 1911 that is no longer used. A colt 1991 compact. This is a good gun, always been reliable, and has been modded. I figure a nice upper, or a mid level complete rifle would be a close swap, maybe a little money one way or the other. I got some silly offers, but then got one that really catches me. A full tilt spikes, with all of their upgraded components. The closest thing they sell to it retails at over $1900. The scale on this trade is way out of whack. The deal comes down to my 1911, $500, and 400 rounds of WWB, for his AR. I think I have come out way ahead. He really wanted my Colt. I know he took a beating because he bought the AR when prices were inflated. He paid somewhere north of $2400.
Now I have to bring the bank account back to neutral. To the safe again. I list two S&W revolvers. I figure I can sell one, and use the surplus on supplies. I list a 66 2.5" snub, and a 586 4". Within 20 minutes, my email is lighting up for the 66. I really don't want to sell it. I am waiting to see if the first guy who offered straight cash will show. If he bails, I may change my mind, and sell another 1911 out of my collection. I can always locate another 1911, but the 66 is going to be hard to replace.
What to do....what to do.....
besides get my butt to the rifle range.
