A Simple, Easy Snack

Instant snack...who needs food?

Take a fair quantity of peanut butter sweeten by adding either honey or Karo syrup; stir till smooth. I prefer the honey blend with graham crackers & the syrup with Ritz crackers. This concoction serves me as anything from quick snack to a light meal.
My grandpappy's favorite snack - peanut butter and Karo on saltines!

In a casserole dish, put a bag of baby spinach and some sliced portobello mushrooms. Cover with creamy blue cheese dressing and top with shredded mozzarella cheese. Add a little black pepper on top. Bake until the cheese melts and gets lightly browned on top. Eat it by itself with bread or crackers. I also serve it as a side for a nice steak off the grill.

My almost nightly go-to snack is about a half dozen each of: Greek style (Italian) pepperoncinis, baby dill pickles, queen sized green olives, and a hunk of Wisconsin sharp cedar cheese (other cheese varieties are consumed when available). Wash it down with Spotted Cow beer.

For me an easy quick snack is a handful of Kirkland Unsalted Mixed Nuts, a Banana or an Apple. Sometimes when I'm feeling like I need something naughty, I'll break off a chunk of a Hershey's Special Dark Bar from the Fridge. I'm trying to stay away from all the really bad stuff.

I have about 6 or 8 protein smoothies per week. I keep several packages of frozen fruit in the freezer like strawberries, blueberries, pineapples, peaches, blackberries , and I make it in a Magic bullet mini blender. Throw in a bananna, some fresh spinach, a scoop of Walmart protein, a little skim milk, and some water.

Get a saucer. Add a 2.5 oz. envelope of Chicken of the Sea Pink Salmon, country Dijon mustard, a dill pickle and Wheat Thins or Triscuits....

Only thing missing is the diced sweet onion.

I also open a can of tuna, drain it, and hit it lightly with a splash of red wine vinegar, some good olive oil, a lot of coarse-ground black pepper, and diced onion. On crackers or crusty bread, or just eaten with a fork, it's very nice.

Take scoops tortilla chips. Arrange them on a plate like little bowls. Scramble an egg, pour the egg into each scoop. Shredded cheese on top. Microwave till egg is firm.

Like little omlettes in tortilla bowls.

I do the same thing with tortillas. Put them on a plate with a rim so the tortilla is like a shallow bowl, add egg & cheese microwave, roll while still hot. Quick breakfast burrito.

Dang, I forgot the MUSHROOMS!!!
Shorted myself on the spinach but the little
onion stuffed with butter and a smooshed garlic clove helped...
Boy was that good, even with the pepper on the greens instead of on top.

Chief, I believe we're the only ones here that eat nuts, apples, and bananas. :) I've been known to resort to cheese and club crackers, and sometimes a little chocolate too. Then of course there's always celery and peanut butter. Texas Star's salmon idea sounds like it's worth a try, as does Mike's tuna.

Some of the stuff here is a bit complex for a lazy guy like me.

Another of my ideas is just opening a can of sardines and a package of snack crackers. Adding a dill pickle or two helps.

If the sardines are a cheaper brand than King Oscar, you can drain the water and add your own Gray Poupon Country Dijon mustard.

It's better than the mustard used in sardine packing, anyway.

I do like nuts and bananas. And oranges and berries. Especially blackberries and raspberries and strawberries. I drink black coffee (no cream, but sugar) with strawberries. Otherwise, I use cream in coffee. Women often like strawberries with champagne.

Texas Star, since you mentioned ladies and strawberries, I have to mention that I have been to more than one party that featured a "chocolate fountain" with various items to dip, and you can take it as an article of faith that the ladies will clean out the strawberries first, and only then move on to other stuff. But since we've risked specifically mentioning the ladies, I hasten to add in their defense that this is no fault of theirs! It's a really tasty combination. And of course who doesn't like good blueberries? My Dad was always very fond of blackberries and raspberries, but moreso the former.

I've never heard of coffee and strawberries, but since I only drink black coffee that would be a non-starter for me, except maybe on special occasions. (You can be sure I'll try it. ;)) In some instances, "laziness" is no great hardship. :D
