I've had this for many years now, serial number 631XX. It was accompanied by the uncommon "military" open sided magazine. The dust cover actually came into my possession with another (much earlier) gun, but it's this one that has the requisite grooves on the frame to mount it. I installed a steel backstrap, but of course retained the original alloy one, so the modification is readily and completely reversible. While I've never researched its history, I imagine this shipped in the mid to late 1960's.

I had an aluminum framed 39 for years but, like so many other dumb things I have done, let it go when it started jamming rather than fixing it.

Every time I see a photo of a 39 I want it back.

Typically difficult to get that particular one back but there are lots of these on the market today to scratch that itch if it's still itchin' ya!🤣

My heartfelt gratitude to Rich (cougar015) and Mike Helms who were able to confirm for me that the above pistol was one of ten such shipped as part of a large order to the Arthur Cook Supply Corporation in Laurel, Maryland on Oct 14, 1966. Before (and during) his involvement in the firearms trade, Art Cook was a renowned Olympic gold medal winning competitive shooter.
