About Paying Too Much (Long Ago)

I bought my M-29, 6 1/2" gun just about when the "Dirty Harry" run began. I had ordered it months before and paid full boat retail.... $186.

I can relate to the angst one can suffer from paying what we consider to be too much.

Just four or five years back I found a very nice M-18-3, 3T's gun, like new in box. It also had stunning casehardening on the hammer and trigger with a really colorful pattern to the CH.

I paid $650 otd when I really wanted to pay about $500 or $550.

I mentally beat myself up over that gun the next few years regarding it as a mistake on my part, but knew I'd realize peace regarding the price at some point when the market hit my buy price.

We are far too hard on ourselves at times. It's only money.

You never pay too much; sometimes we buy too soon!!!

FYI your $475 in 1972, when adjusted for inflation, would be
$2,697.00 today...............however, you would have missed out on all the "entertainment expenses" over the years!!!

When a person can afford to buy what they really "want" they never pay too much.:)

Very nice looking package you have there!!!:D

I bought a python 357 in '75 for $350. All my buddies wanted to be DH and paid between $500/$750 for there m29's. The nickel m29 was the highest priced one. The sales rep black marketed them from his trunk. Seeing this I'd never buy a s&w for decades.

In our throw-away world, most "things" don't last. It's hard to find "things" that have real value. That can be monetary value, sentimental value, experiential value, etc.
To find something that actually possesses value in more than one of those categories is remarkable!

THE "Dirty Harry" gun was a BLUED, SIX and a half inch gun. WHY folks paid through the nose for anything else, especially a nickel gun always amazed me.

I was in NJ when the craze was at it's peak and knew a co worker who paid $750 for a 6 1/2", blued from a local dealer. I don't recall our wages back then but $750 had to be at least 3 weeks pay. Maybe more.
