Actress and Director Penny Marshall Has Passed Away

Penny Marshall passed away from complications related to diabetes. Hard to believe she was 75-years-old. Whenever I think of her, I always see her as her younger self.

Like a lot of people, she struggled with her weight and the effects of diabetes, having been told once to "diet or die".

After starring in the hit television series Laverne & Shirley for eight years, she moved behind the camera and directed several excellent films, two of which were Big and A League of Their Own. Big not only made a bigger star of Tom Hanks, it also resurrected the career of Robert Loggia. Is there anyone who hasn't seen those films? Big will always be one of my favorite films.

She also directed a film titled Awakenings, based on a true story, that starred Robert DeNiro and Robin Williams. The film is seldom seen these days for reasons I don't understand.

Penny Marshall. So much talent. Hard to believe she's gone.

Brilliant, funny, gifted woman. I was very sorry to hear of this.

Her brother Gary, another force to be reckoned with, died a couple of years ago. I often wished I could eavesdrop on their conversations when the laughs were flowing freely.

I missed this the other week when it was posted and only found out about her death last night when my wife mentioned it. She was a very talented lady. RIP Penny Marshall.
