I have a soft spot for for some older S&W's or maybe I am soft in the head. I saw this M39-2 on a GB auction site that I had bought from before. The vendor imports surplus from Israel, sometimes some very cool stuff. This M39-2 looked like it had been carried and honestly used, by a lefty. I put a bid on it and won. At the least it will make a great garage/truck/tractor gun that I don't have to worry about too much. Way too many safe queen M39-2's out there, this one has seen the light of day, still has sand under the grips.

And it goes with the ex Israeli nickel M39-2 that I picked up from the same vendor a couple of years ago

Very interesting acquisition. Are there any markings on it to support it's time in Israel? I've never seen documented 39s with Israeli connections, so I wouldn't know what to look for. The cosmetic condition of yours certainly invites taking it out and shooting it... hope you will enjoy it like it deserves.

No Israeli markings. The Importer verified that these came in from Israel. I will letter at least the nickel one. Over the past five years or so Israel has been on a modernization program with their police and security forces. They realized that they had a huge variety of firearms and needed to standardize. There have been thousands of handguns imported into the US from Israel, Browning Hi Powers, Berettas, CZ's, S&W's and many more.

Won an auction recently from DWJ imports on gunbroker on a 915. Without the fees, shipping and taxes I won it for just shy of 300 dollars. Looking forward to getting it in my hands!

I'd say you did very well with that purchase! Pictures are expected, of course. I used an orphan 915 slide during my 639 Franken-Smith project and it's a great basic Gen 2/3 slide. I'm sure the rest of the gun will be just as nice.

This! In have seen CZs, BHPs made by Belgium, Hungary, and US, lots of Smith and Wesson semis and revolvers, coming back into the country from Israeli police forces. They have a long history going back to WW2 of using whatever they could get.

This is the 915 I won, Smith & Wesson 915 9mm - Semi Auto Pistols at GunBroker.com : 890246576
It has a little character for sure, but might make a great project cleaning her up. I will make a post once I get it in hands.

I believe that was the origin of the "Israeli technique" of carrying a semi auto with a loaded magazine and no round in the chamber. Different safeties and other considerations made it sensible to carry in condition 3 and charge the handgun immediately before use.

I got this 6904 from a GB auction at a reasonable price from a seller in Texas.. When it got to me I noticed a very lightly stamped "COLE DIST" on the right hand side of the slide. I had no idea what it meant so I asked about it in this forum. An answer came very quickly that Cole Distributors bought and flipped a lot of surplus arms frim Israel.
