Won a very nice Model 10-7 on Gun Broker last week. Serial number is from 1982; right stock is stamped Jun 1982. This one has a 5 inch barrel. Is this barrel length somewhat uncommon? I rarely see a 5 inch in my shopping. Thanks.

I don't think those are the original grips. They have no curve edges.

Here is a 1981 10-8 with original grips

and a 1983 10-7 (4" barrel)

Yours look more like grips off of a K-38 or Model 14, 15.

edges not rounded

Those grips are the standard target grips with speed loader cut from the early 80s. Most likely the gun came from the factory with magnas and the targets were swapped on when the gun was new. Back then the dealers had the target grips available as accessories for around $20 a set.

Thanks for the feedback, especially about the stocks. I have not fired a K-frame with "target" stocks so off to range soon with the 10-7!

Do the targets with the speed loader cut have any added value over magnas?

No, but I like targets, they fit me better. I have a 10-5 tapered 5" and I believe they are less common than the 4" or 6".

One of my friends began his career in the early '70s in RCMP.Tells me that S&W had made a special big run of 5'' bbl Model 10 for the force.Check on yours;it might have RCMP markings or check by the serial number. If so,in Canada the gun might have a special value.
