I buy, sell, trade at least 4 or 5 guns a year. It is an addiction that only harms my billfold. Now there is nothing to buy that I want or if I do find something the cost is way up. I have been spending my gun money on upgrading a Glock 43 but it is just not the same. Is there a support group out there? Something like Alcoholics Anonymous. Will I ever be over the withdrawal symptoms? What is an old guy to do?

I have easily adapted,, in all seriousness,,

Instead of buying guns, or ammo, in the calibers that bring a fortune,,
I buy fun stuff that has not changed price,,

* Cleaning Supplies,
these are still cheap, and still on Amazon, but, you gotta wait two weeks for them to get here.
I am good with that, some Breakfree CLP arrived yesterday.

* Cleaning What You ALREADY Own,
This one will get you,, I will bet there are guns in the back of the safe that havent been lubed in twenty years,,

* Write An Inventory List, AND, Record Serial Numbers,
This one will keep you busy until the END of the pandemic,,
your family will be happy to find this, after you pass, so they have an idea of how many guns to go looking for,,

* Write a Detailed Description Of WHERE Each Gun Resides,
This one kinda goes with the step above.

OK, complete these steps, then, come back, and we will give you the next four steps in the program.:)

You do not want to be overwhelmed by having ALL of the steps,, at the start of the program.

It took me a few decades to figure it all out,
but I purchased all the guns I wanted back when prices were low.
And now I am concentrating on my other hobby where prices are stable.

I'm walking around with the Standard Manufacturing Colt clone on the brain 24/7 . I need it about as much as John Wayne does but is it BEAUTIFUL! Those case hardened colors do the same for me that blondes and brunettes used to. Can I get a witness!

"Is there a support group out there?" If you are single, get married. If you are married, tell your wife what you are spending on firearms. This will curb the spending right quick and in a hurry!
. After looking a my health insurance premiums for 2021 I think my gun spending is going to go down fast

Bruises are the same color as case hardening. You can get them for free and have them on your person at all times to look at. Why pay thousands of dollars for that? Just go to a bar and pick a fight. Don't even need to wait for shipping!

You have come to the most inappropriate place to ask for ANY kind of help.... the people here are enablers of the most sincerely worst kind...They can't help it though. They mean well but are incapable of really helping YOU when they can't help themselves.....so you will have to seek help somewhere else. Perhaps the guys at the Colt Forum will be more helpful....

What I did.

I sold my hot rod (2008) I quit drinking (2012) I quit smoking (2011).

That opened up an avenue that encompassed a lot of funds in different directions.

Then I dealt with my wife with a deal that put a smile on her face, this big,
I spend a dollar, she spends a dollar. As far as everything goes it's all pretty good.

I look at it this way.

I don't gamble. do drugs, or take lavish vacations. So if I add a gun to the collection, at least I have something to show for it.

I never spend more that I can afford. If I can't pay the Visa bill at the end of the month, I don't buy it.

A lot of times I'm trading or selling to pay for my new acquisition.

And the value of said acquisition will not go down. more than likely it will go up.

So to me gun purchases are like drinking beer. Done in moderation it's very enjoyable.

4-5 a year seems downright normal to me OP, so I'm not going to be much help.

I quit smoking, drinking, and drugs in 1991. I rarely gamble and never for more than $100 if we happen upon a casino for whatever reason maybe once a year.

Stay away from my coffee and my guns and we'll all get along famously. ;)

I've sworn off Gun Broker and Guns International several times; the withdrawal symptoms are more than I can bear, so I'll suffer for the rest of my wife. My sympathies go out to you; but at least you share the results of your addiction with fellow forum members.:o:D

I quit smoking, 1980, hard. I quit Copenhagen, 1994, extremely hard times 1,000, if you don't use this stuff don't ever start. I no longer drink, not hard at all.

I was hankering buying another revolver, S&W of course, this year. I had an ankle replacement in February, and managed to fall on the same day destroying everything and more. Another surgery the same day as the first done by my very irritated surgeon. A long hospital stay, a much longer stay at a nursing home rehab unit and then four months at home either in bed, a wheelchair, the toilet or the shower. I couldn't go to the LGS's or pawn shops. By the time I was allowed to drive the prices were ludicrous and getting more so daily.

Now it is slim pickings if there is a picking at all. I have installed battery powered motion activated LED lights (two sets) in the safe. I reorganized the safe by manufacturer, caliber, model number and barrel length. I haven't started a weekly cleaning schedule yet but that might happen.

The ranges have opened with some Covid 19 precautions.

I could go to the ranges but the ammunition drought means I can't restock at home.

I would start reloading but that has a drought as well.

This has been a year like no other.

I worry what the future holds for my kids and grandkids.

It's a sad thing when a person is into guns strictly for profit. We all like a bargain but the passion for the product is what drives us to act as though we have no brain or judgement at times. When we look we don't see an inanimate object, we see the heart and soul of a work of art and it captures us. We look back with 20/20 vision and regret the loves we let get away and never think about the money that was involved. The names we remember like the names of our children. Let's not try to deny it or hide it from a world that doesn't get it but rather shout back I LOVE MY GUNS and the fact that they can be used to protect me my family and my country is icing on an already perfect cake.

Ya see that's just it......

What can you buy for a dollar.

My wife knows durned well that I will spend a bit more than dollar, so hence the big 😃.

Funny you mention that phrase, I remember an old ahhnold Schwarzenegger movie called total recall, " I'd buy that for a dollar " was a well used line.
