Adding To The .22LR Thread, What was Your First .22 Hangun?

Iver Johnson top break...."sealed eight." Not very accurate (I know...blame the shooter not the gun) and I don't regret trading it a few years back on a 19-3.

First handgun was a Browning Buckmark .22LR. I didnt like, traded it in on a down payment for a new S&W 4013- Still have the 4013!

h&r 686 6 shot 6" with 22lr and 22 mag cylinders in 1981, still looks new and still shooting it...

Outside of a junk owls head U.S. Arms co found in pieces in a bucket of junk, my first good .22 was a ruger convertable single six I bought new in about 1961.

A Colt Woodsman. It was probably my favorite pistol way back then.
I wish I still had. I can't even remember what I did with it. Argh! Old age thing...

I purchased a Ruger Super Single Six on May 26, 1974 for $92.75...I still have the receipt. My dad never owned one or shot one for that matter, but he steered me in that direction and I have never regretted it. I ended up giving it to my younger brother (long story) but I was fortunate that he later sold it back to me. I still have that wonderful pistol.

Colt Woodsman, my dad gave me when I was about 11 years old.

First one I bought myself was S+W Model 18-4. Still have it. That was 33 years ago.

First .22

Great thread - better than "first kiss" and more memorable. A K 22 when I first left home for USMC. Way back in the early 60's. Then I had a period of temporary insanity, went semi-hippy and gave the gun away. Grrrrrrrrrr.

First .22 handgun was a S&W Model 18 I bought new on April 22, 1977. Blue, 4 inch barrel of course. Paid $162.23 out the door. I probably have shot it more than any firearm I have ever owned. I may have it buried with me when I shuffle off this mortal coil. When I go to the range, my other .22's usually sit home in the safe because of it.

First .22 handgun I shot was a Colt Official Police, 6 inch, blue. My grandfather gave it to my mother about 1948. She used it to shoot a peeping tom. She's gone now but the Colt remains.

A very early,#1641xx "Bekaert" 22/32 for $35 at a sporting goods store where I worked for a short time in 1972.I still have it,just love those grips. About 1974 I heard that Colt was stopping production of their .22's Bought a Colt"Peacemaker" buntline, 7 1/2" both cylns for $109 at a K-Mart, their last one. Raced to another K-Mart and bought their last Colt"Woodsman Sport" for $174. I still have these NIB in the safe.

My 1949 Iver Johnson Sealed 8. Had to send it back to factory for new cylinder when I dry fired it repeatedly (hammer firing pin struck cylinder without a case being in chamber). My dad bought it for me at York Arms in Memphis, TN. At the time it was illegal to sell handguns in Tennessee, but the store had them hidden in the store and would sell them. The price was less than $20.

H&R 9 shot with 6 inch barrel, traded it in for a S&W Model 17-4 which I still have.

Cheap H. Schmidt s/a 22/22mag German copy of Colt Frontier Scout bought new in 1967 for $38.00. not overly accurate but 100% reliable. Still have it. Followed closely by a new Mod. 15-3 ($97.00) and the disease became terminal.

My first rimfire pistol

Hello all!

I just bought my first .22 LR pistol and I like it a LOT! At the local gun show last weekend I bought a vintage Smith model 43 airweight. What a fantastic little handgun! It feels as precise as a Swiss watch! I don't know much about this model, are they fairly uncommon? I can't find many of them for sale on the auction sites or anywhere else for that matter. Any information would be much appreciated.

For me, my 1st purchase was an H&R Model 949- 9 shooter.
It was about $90 used and not much more new at that time. I thought it was ok, but it was as loud as a .22 mag. Sold it to a guy and took over dad's Peacemaker convertible.

The first i shot was my fathers "Star model F"

The first i owned my self was a S&W model 17

First was a Ruger Mk I target w/6 7/8 bbl. A Christmas gift from the wife in 1977. Still have it in about 95% condition. Was a bear to learn how to re-assemble w/o pulling my hair out. Very accurate and fun too shoot.
