Adding To The .22LR Thread, What was Your First .22 Hangun?

A Colt Peacemaker, 4 5/8" barrel, with extra .22 mag cylinder. $80 new in 1973.

It appears to have been a good investment. :D

High Standard Sentinel Deluxe - 9 shot, 6", nickel. Well used, but well cared for - still looks almost new. Even have the original box. Bought in the early late 60's and still resides in my safe. I'd like that one to go to the grandkids, and even more, I'd like them to value it as an heirloom and keep it in the family. Too bad we have so little control over that part of it.
 
Ruger Single Six Convertible bought in 1962 at a pawn shop in Big Spring, Texas. I had just been stationed to Webb Air Force Base. Sold the gun a long time ago though.
 
About 1975 I bought my first .22 pistol a Ruger MKI bull barrel target which I still own.

My second one is most special as it was gifted to me by my buddy, a WWII Navy pilot.
It is a Ruger Red Eagle and one of the first made, likely in Ruger's garage.
I like to shoot this one on Memorial Day in honor of old Jim.

I've picked up a few more .22s since but I'll never part with the first two.
 
My first .22 was a cheap German import (Rohm I think) .22 Short that I had a friend order through the mail for $12.50. After six shots you had to screw the barrel back in as it shot loose. I traded it and $5 for a Remington 514 .22 rifle. My first quality .22 was a little Colt Scout, nickle with wood grips, .22RF and .22Mag cylinders. I traded it in 1965 for a new S&W M-53 which I still have and shoot. The price on it was $126.50. Good ole days?
 
Ruger Standard Model 4" in '67.
Cost $41 and change new then. It was a toss up between the Ruger and a Star Model F.
The Ruger got traded off about 15 yrs later for ?.
Still like the Star Model F, own 3 of those including an early target model.
 
Mine was a Ruger Single Six convertible, bought back in '68 with money earned from cutting lawns. Like mentioned before, times were much different then. This one got traded off for a RCBS Rock Chucker set up at a gun shop in Traverse City, Michigan. Still have the press and a lifetime of reloading fun.
My current twenty-two's are all Smiths.
 
Ruger Super Single Six, 6.5", Blue. Still have it. Paid $185 in Nov, 1981.
 
My first .22 was a Ruger Single Six Convertible. I know that this gun has a lot of fans but I didn't find it to be especially accurate. I sold it after about a year and promptly bought a 617-1 4". I've NEVER regretted that decision.
 
Ruger stainless Single Six .22/Mag 5 1/2" barrel, Still have it 32 years later!
 
A HS Duramatic that I bought at the Western Auto in Rantoul for $69. I put $1.00 away each day that I skipped lunch. It took several months but I finally got it paid off. I still have it and it still shoots just fine.
 
Model 17-3 six inch barrel, my wife and 2 sons all fight over who gets to shoot it first at the range. Incredible accuracy and fun to boot.
 
Long before I became a S&W fan (or could afford them), I purchased a Stainless Ruger single six with the dual cylinders in .22 and .22Mag.
I was 18 years old. Was great fun to shoot.
Got rid of it somewhere along the way; now my son will just have to inherit my model 18 (poor kid).
 
First .22

My first .22 Was and is a S&W Mod. 17-2 that my father picked up in Gitmo at the PX. I inhereted it in 1966 when he died. I was just shy of 13 at that time.
I still have it and it shoots great.
I also inhereted a S&W 1917 Army.
Still have both and have added a few more S&Ws since.

My first .22 handgun was a Dan Wesson revolver with 6" heavy shroud barrel that I bought new for $180 in 1982. My friends called it a "mini-Python" because with the vent rib and heavy shroud it did bear some resemblance to a Python. But it was a lot cheaper, and a lot cheaper to shoot!

I shot bullseye competition with that Dan Wesson revolver and enjoyed it a lot. I sold it to "trade up" to a High Standard Trophy, also used for bullseye, and didn't own another K-frame .22 until I picked up a model 18 in 2003.

I wish I had held onto that Dan Wesson, but I have to admit, the S&W .22 K-frame revolvers are in a class by themselves!

Iver johnson sidewinder model 50 - 8 shot revolver it still serves me well, and a astra cub in .22 short that sits in the safe.
 
Iver Johnson top break...."sealed eight." Not very accurate (I know...blame the shooter not the gun) and I don't regret trading it a few years back on a 19-3.
 
First handgun was a Browning Buckmark .22LR. I didnt like, traded it in on a down payment for a new S&W 4013- Still have the 4013!
 
h&r 686 6 shot 6" with 22lr and 22 mag cylinders in 1981, still looks new and still shooting it...
 
Outside of a junk owls head U.S. Arms co found in pieces in a bucket of junk, my first good .22 was a ruger convertable single six I bought new in about 1961.
 
A Colt Woodsman. It was probably my favorite pistol way back then.
I wish I still had. I can't even remember what I did with it. Argh! Old age thing...
 
I purchased a Ruger Super Single Six on May 26, 1974 for $92.75...I still have the receipt. My dad never owned one or shot one for that matter, but he steered me in that direction and I have never regretted it. I ended up giving it to my younger brother (long story) but I was fortunate that he later sold it back to me. I still have that wonderful pistol.
 
Colt Woodsman, my dad gave me when I was about 11 years old.

First one I bought myself was S+W Model 18-4. Still have it. That was 33 years ago.
 
First .22

Great thread - better than "first kiss" and more memorable. A K 22 when I first left home for USMC. Way back in the early 60's. Then I had a period of temporary insanity, went semi-hippy and gave the gun away. Grrrrrrrrrr.
